Mickey birthday MapleMouseMama

My beloved Mickey Mouse has a special birthday today.  He turns 85 years young!!  Can I get a whoot, whoot?!  Did you know that our favorite cheese lover made his screen debut a mere 85 years ago in the iconic Steamboat Willie?  I have to admit that I am more a fan of the modern version of my main mouse, but Steamboat Willie holds a special place in every Disney fan’s heart.  This was the start of it all..

Since many of us can not be with Mickey to help him celebrate today the Disney Channel is helping us out with a day of programming sure to put anyone into a cheese induced coma…but in a good way. 🙂

“Disney channel debuts the first-ever extended episode of the Emmy Award-winning Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts as part of a themed day of programming in honor of Mickey Mouse’s birthday. The special seven-minute comedic cartoon titled “Potatoland” finds Mickey, Donald and Goofy on a road trip to Idaho to fulfill Goofy’s lifelong dream of visiting what he fondly remembers as Potatoland theme park. The short will be available on WATCHDisneyChannel.com, the WATCH Disney Channel app for smartphones and tablets, Disney.com and iTunes the day after the premiere at 8 p.m. on Nov. 18.

Mickey Mouse cartoons will air every half hour beginning at 1:25 p.m., leading up to the premiere of “Potatoland.” Also debuting throughout the day will be special birthday messages to Mickey from the stars of Austin & Ally, Dog with a Blog, Jessie and Shake It Up. The day-long birthday celebration kicks off with back-to-back episodes of Disney Junior’s Emmy-nominated series “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” (10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. ET/PT).

The new Mickey Mouse shorts are exec produced and supervise directed by Emmy-winning artist and director Paul Rudish (Star Wars: Clone Wars, Dexter’s Laboratory) Aaron Springer (SpongeBob SquarePants, Gravity Falls) and Clay Morrow (Dexter’s Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls) art directors, and Joseph Holt (Sym-Bionic Titan) is the art director. “Potatoland” is directed by Aaron Springer.“

I hope you have the chance to enjoy some Mickey love today, maybe raise a glass in his honor.  Just remember as Walt himself said, “It all started by a mouse…”

Is Mickey your favorite, or maybe one of the other fab four ( or five) is?

I didn’t realise that Mickey was so old, he’s definitely looking good for his age. 😉 I loved watching him on TV as a teenager, that’s when we first got a TV, marvellous fun for kids and grown-ups alike.
