The Summer Wedding Guest Emergency Kit #BayerBlogger

Summertime is famous for a few things like unpredictable weather, bug bites, sunburns and weddings.  By now you may have received some of these, but are you prepared to deal with them? And what if they all happen on the same day – can you handle that? Love may be in the air when you attend a summer wedding for your friends, siblings and a variety of other humans, but often that drugged-like feeling can cause your hosts to forget a few things. Don’t rely on the happy couple to supply everything you need to enjoy the day – come prepared!

There are a few mishaps you can count on when it comes to summertime nuptials. I’ve rounded up a list of everything you’ll need to stay comfortable and carefree from “I do” to the sparkler exit.

1) Hand-held Fan. Yes, I get very, very hot. Like hot flashes hot and they happen all year long. So, even if a wedding is happening indoors with the AC on high, I need a fan. Like desperately. You might too.

2) Deodorant. All that dancing can work up a sweat. Don’t get caught unprepared! DeodoHandrant wipes are a convenient and portable option that fit in any clutch, purse or pocket.

3) Water. This may seem like a weird one, but I never go anywhere without a bottle of water. I get dry mouth, even in the winter and a quick sip of water helps with that. If it is hot, than it is a must.  A small bottle will fit nicely in my “good” purse and that makes me very happy. 🙂

 4) Breath mints. You never know if onions and garlic will be on the menu. Stay fresh with a small tin of strong mints. I even keep a small roll of dental floss in my purse, just in case.

 5) Bug repellant. Bugs are notorious summer wedding crashers. For serious protection from uninvited guests of the insect variety, choose a bug repellent with DEET like Muskol. Muskol will last you up to eight hours, so you’re covered even if that outdoor ceremony goes into overtime.

 6) Mini first-aid kit. Weddings can be long affairs and a sudden headache or an annoying cough can ruin your day. I recommend bringing along a few bandages, cough lozenges, an antacid for stomach discomfort and your go-to headache and pain medication. Mine is Aspirin Extra Strength because it works fast!

7) Sunglasses. Summer weddings often have an outside component to them, even if it is just for cocktails or while the photos are being taken. The sun can make you squint, causing fine lines to pop up and make your eyes water. Sunglasses are a life-saver for summer weddings.

 8) Makeup touch-up kit. If you took the time to apply makeup for the wedding, you’ll want it to last throughout the entire event. At the very least, you’ll need a lip product to reapply after dinner and blotting tissues to cut down on shine. If you have the space, throw in eyeliner too in case of any unexpected tears. (But maybe invest in the waterproof stuff first. 🙂 )

 9) Insoles. Many brides these days will put out dancing flats for guests when their toes get tired, but don’t rely on it! I know wearing “sensible shoes” isn’t always an option, so pick-up an insole that can cushion the strain of standing and dancing without tripping up your style. Dr. Scholl’s has brand new ultrasoft leather insoles that add comfort when walking and dancing in heels. As a bonus, they also help to keep feet fresh and dry!

10) Tissues. This one is a no-brainer. Sniffling and sneezing on your plus one is a major wedding faux-pas. Also, if you know you’re a crier, these are a must.

I would love to hear your wedding mishap stories! What item can you not live without when it comes to surviving summer weddings?

I always have a teeny sewing kit with me – safety pins always come in handy!

Definitely a great idea! I forgot about safety pins. I do like to have a couple on hand. And bobby pins. 🙂

If I’m wearing heels for the ceremony, I like to bring a pair of flats for the reception because it’s way more comfy to dance in them!

I agree. My feet would be killing if I had to keep the heels on all night.

Great ideas! I always have band-aids with me for the little cuts and scrapes the kids always seem to get when were out.
