See “The Horse and His Boy” At The Shaw Festival

May 27, 2019 By: MapleMouseMama22 Comments

Taking in a play or musical has long been a passion of mine, so seeing The Shaw Festival’s “The Horse and His Boy” is high on my bucket list. But more so than that, I want to have my children see it. The art of bringing a story to life on stage can be so beautiful to witness and that is a beauty I want my children to grow to love. I was an adult before I started to truly appreciate the craft, but every summer The Shaw Festival gives young people the chance to start early by presenting a family-friendly show. This summer that show is “The Horse and His Boy.”

Fortunately my children have been introduced to the theatre already. Emily’s first foray was at the age of ten, when we took her to see “The Wizard of Oz” in Toronto at the Ed Mirvish Theatre. It was a wonderful show, perfect for her age group to see and we had a blast. But William was even younger than that. His first play was “Peter and The Starcatcher” at the tender age of six! The secret to bringing such a young child to see live theatre? It was presented by The Shaw Festival. 🙂 And you know what? He really enjoyed it! There was music, entertaining and relatable characters, tons of humour and a very necessary intermission. The only hitch was William’s shoes.  Apparently the light up bottoms were distracting the person sitting next to him as he swung his feet back and forth. 🙂

The Horse and His Boy

Straight from The Shaw Festival itself, “The Horse and His Boy” makes it’s World Premiere at the Festival Theatre from April to July 18th, 2019 in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.

“Whisk your family off to Narnia in this mesmerizing story about four runaways — a boy, a girl and their horses — who find themselves called upon to rescue Narnia. With wild adventure and daring escapes, it’s quite unmissable for fans of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and The Magician’s Nephew, and the perfect introduction for anyone new to the magical stories of C.S. Lewis.“

Sounds amazing, right? One thing you can always count on from The Shaw Festival’s family-friendly shows – they are stories that resonate with the child in all of us and are often ones you will recognize yourself. The best part is the shows allow you the opportunity to introduce a new world to your own children. I guarantee you will be visiting the library soon after seeing “The Horse and His Boy” so you can share more of Narnia together.♥
