Mad Gab, A Classic Game Perfect For Road Trips!

September 19, 2019 By: MapleMouseMama12 Comments

My family has spent a lot of time this summer playing board games and a fan favourite is Mad Gab. You don’t have to be an intellect to understand this game. You don’t have to have a knowledge of trivia or know how to draw exceptionally well, to play Mad Gab. You don’t even really need to know how to spell! Mad Gab is truly a classic game that is a mouthful. 🙂

Mad Gab

Describing a game as a “real mouthful” is a weird way to put things, but with Mad Gab it is very true. The object of the game is to try sounding out a strange phrase that both looks and sounds confusing! Your teammates have to try and determine what the phrase may actually mean. When we first described how to play Mad Gab to the kiddos, I had this mental image in my head of speaking with a bunch of candy or chewing gum in your mouth. See? A mouthful!

Mad Gab is described by the makers like this:

“It’s not what you say, it’s what you hear. In Mad Gab, teams work to decipher groups of unrelated words into real phrases before time runs out. It’s a game sure to spur laughter as friends speak this strange language and then say the answer without even knowing it!”

We had a lot of fun playing Mad Gab. Although the recommended age for players is ages 13 and up, my ten year old had no trouble playing along. We brought this game into the car for road trips and it made for quite the entertainment. Easier to play than spotting a certain car colour (and a lot safer), we never knew what would be said next. 🙂

With the variety of games on the market, there is something for everyone. If you have older children, especially teens you want to try and spend some time with, I suggest giving Mad Gab a try. Anything that brings on the laughter is good, but you can hold you teen captive in the car if you need to. 😉

Have you played Mad Gab with your family or friends? Here is another fun game to try.

This sounds like a game my grandkids would like, they might be a bit young for it though as only one is over 10 and the other just 8.

Our family has never played this game. It seems like it would be fun with teens to grandparents and bridge the gap.
