Disney never ceases to amaze me, truly. I was fortunate to attend an advanced screening of the new animated feature “Frozen” about two weeks ago and now I can’t wait to see it again. Yes, I know I am a sucker for Disney, but this movie stands on it’s own. From the story, an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Snow Queen”, to the characters, the scenery and songs, I give “Frozen” two thumbs up, four out of four stars and a big, warm hug. I loved it that much. 🙂
Frozen takes place in a mythical kingdom reigned by a loving kind and queen who have two beautiful daughters, Princess Elsa (Idina Menzel) and Princess Anna (Kristen Bell). Elsa has the magical powers to turn her surroundings into a winter wonderland and after accidentally putting Anna’s life in danger, Elsa must hide away, keep her power secret. In doing so these two loving sisters are kept apart. This alone endears the story to my heart, as I have a sister and to be separated from her would be devastating. The song “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” with it’s soulful lyrics will have you wishing you could keep the sisters together and possibly wiping away a tear. On the eve of her coronation Elsa’s powers are accidentally drawn out of her and lead her to desert her kingdom for the hills. She sings of her new found freedom to be herself in the beautiful song “Let It Go”, which will give you goosebumps.
The story continues with Anna searching for her sister in treacherous conditions, falling in love and realizing just how much she loves her sister. We meet Olaf, the corny, summer loving snowman, at just the right moment. His comedic timing and unwavering support for Anna, “some people are worth melting for”, will have you wanting to build your own snowman. The climax of the movie is a battle against evil, nature and time and it will have you on the edge of your seat literally. I found myself physically urging on our heroine, hands flaying and was not surprised to see others around me do the same. Die hard Disney fans are everywhere. 🙂
As much as I loved Frozen as a whole, a few things truly standout for me. Elsa, with her out of control power, is never portrayed as a villain and the directors could have so easily done that. The soundtrack, well it will have you lining up at HMV for your copy, I promise. Including the two songs already mentioned, the other six original songs will touch your heart, have you looking up the lyrics so you can sing along. The scenery is breathtaking, simply stunning. Just wait until you see what Elsa can really do with a bit of snow and ice. Finally the 3D animation…was pretty good. I have never been a huge fan of 3D, but this one wasn’t that bad. I think the best use of it was in the opening short “Get A Horse” starring Mickey and Minnie. This was the perfect start to a pretty spectacular movie.
Frozen is now playing in theaters and from what I hear it is cleaning up! Not a big surprise there. I suggest you bring Kleenex and either your sister, your daughter, your mama or all three. Frozen will melt your heart. 🙂
Have you already seen Frozen or plan to? What is your favorite song from the soundtrack?

It wasn’t even the singing that got to me. The plot was amazing and the 3D was groundbreaking. I am amazed and astonished at Disney and their innovation sometimes. I love the company to begin with because they are wholesome and because they do service really well at their resorts. But they continue to elevate animation and that’s really remarkable!

They have outdone themselves Paula, the whole movie was exceptional 🙂

I remember the first time I watched frozen and I thought what an amazing story it was. I still think that and it’s been 3 years and it’s still as popular which tells how great the story is.
