Chances are if you have a daughter between the ages of five and fifteen you know what Rainbow Loom is. This latest craze in kid crafting was one of the hottest toys to ask for this Christmas and yes, my daughter Emily was on that bandwagon to.Β Rainbow Loom is her new obsession and I have the pictures to prove it!
For those of you not in the loop, Rainbow Loom is a plastic contraption kids are using to make bracelets, necklaces, keychains and even rings out of tiny, little elastics of various colours.Β Think about the elastics your dentist uses for braces and you’ll know the ones I mean.Β My daughter received a storage case full of elastics in every colour of the rainbow π for Christmas and hasn’t stopped creating ever since!Β
Despite the chances of a multitude of colourful little rubber circles covering your furniture, the Rainbow Loom is a great project for kids.Β It is relatively inexpensive and the variety of creations are endless. The kit cost less then twenty dollars and came with the loom, a hook and hundreds of elastics.Β Every pack of elastics also comes with dozens of clips to keep the jewelry together when you are done. I purchased the Rainbow Loom from Michaels, but you can buy the elastics from most dollar stores.
Emily has made a variety of accessories so far and she searches for new patterns on YouTube!Β The loom itself comes apart to create different designs and for easy storage.Β You need only choose your pattern and get to work!Β Recently Emily received a loot bag at her friend’s birthday party and inside was a package of elastics and a pair of chopsticks! Perfect for making Rainbow Loom creations on the go!
To date Emily has produced about twenty-five Rainbow Loom items and she is not slowing down.Β Has your child found the pot of elastics at the end of the rainbow yet?

Yes she has and they are all over the floors of my house.
LOL, so true Rene π I can not count how many of these little suckers seem to escape from the storage case…

My daughter asked for (and received) a Rainbow Loom for Christmas this year. I thought it was a great value for under $20. She has really enjoyed making bracelets and colour coordinating them.
Definitely worth the twenty bucks Jenna. It is about time we had some well priced items for kids, LOL

I was thinking about getting one of these for my 5 year old. She loves to make bracelets
She would love it Kim! Great birthday gift..
Suz
my boys keep coming home from school wearing these bracelets, apparently their reading buddies give them one every so often. lol I didn’t really know much about them though, so thanks!
My pleasure Jennifer π My son likes to ask his sister to make them for him to!
Suz
I am hearing SO much about the Rainbow Loom! It sure looks like something I would have loved to have growing up. I’m sure my daughter will want one in a couple years when she’s a hit older π
Brandi they are the best thing to get to keep kiddos busy! So inexpensive to!!
Suz
Both kiddos have them. And -amazingly- take good care of them and I have yet to find a stray elastic. Shocking!! We were at a girls hockey tournament and one of the teams made bracelets together to sell during the tournament. They raised over $600 for a local hockey player that was gravely injured. The hotel staff were amazed “You wouldn’t even have known there was a hockey team here. They were so quiet!”. π
You are lucky you are not finding them all over Shannon. They are a pain to clean up, but luckily my daughter is motivated, LOL. That is great yours have used them for fundraising! My daughter is doing the same thing and is making her stockpile now. She has made other bracelets for fundraising in the past so this fits perfectly :-0 We have great kids!

This all sounds like fun, which all little girls should enjoy…..but……I am from the old school and I can’t wait for Emily to start knitting her own sweaters and sewing her own clothes!! Hummmmm that was for another generation you say? Maybe so, but who knows, it all might come back again! Meanwhile, enjoy the kit! π
She is ready to learn anytime Gem π

Oh, my pile of four has found them alright- and I’ve found them in turn….in my couch, on tables, under couches, all over the floors, in the vacuum….even in PET DISHES! lol
LOL,, they manage to stick to lots of things Alysia. It drives me nuts!
loomband looks good but beware of toxic one. i bet china will release cheap version of this containing hazardous materials.
Thanks for the tip!
Oh yes, children here are crazy about this thing which I observed, addicted to it and their school lessons were compromised. So, better give their scheduled time for this loom band.
Yes, all the kids in my daughter’s school were bringing them in to play with as well!
This is so nice. I look colourful stuffs!
Hence the name… π
Suz my facebook feed is full of rainbow loom creations of my friends’ daughters. I think it’s a fantastic way to express girls’ creativity. Fantastic job to your kid for already making 25?! I wonder how many she has made as of July?
Aww thank you π It is a great outlook for kids and not just the girls. My daughter has numerous male friends who loom as well, which surprised me. She has continued to make them and I have lost count, LOL, but the number is not low :-0
OMG i want this. I myself will love it. Colorful bracelets :* Beautiful post
Thanks Hina π They are have some great creations π
I’m a teacher, so I know these are all the rage! The girls in my class each made me one for the last week of school- they make hideous bracelets! And because they were gifts, I had to wear them all week. Scratchy, and super tacky, but great for building coordination and the kids love them. I guess wearing them and looking like a teenager for a week was worth the tradeoff.
LOL, I agree Michelle and good for you for being a good sport and keeping them on. I am sure the girls were thrilled!
Great post .love bracelets much i have around 300 bracelets in my home really i become kid when i see bracelets ,Thanks for sharing good post
cheers
That an awesome amount of bracelets! My daughter would be thrilled with that amount, LOL
Loombands is just really so popular these days and these comes in all colors.
Totally the rage now..
I dont get why these are becoming popular these days. Its just rubber bands. Except that it comes in different colors which I guess kids love.
I think it is that they can stretch their creativity to all sorts of levels. I recall making friendship bracelets as a kid and these are very similar..
i see this has become a global trend! it’s still widely in demand here in the philippines as well but i haven’t got any intention to try it! it’s a great gift item though and you’re right, it’s a good bonding activity for kids! π
LOL Yan, it is definitely an acquired taste π
Hi Suzanne!
Can you believe that just recently I have found out about these rainbow looms? π My colleague at work was wearing them and they were so coloful and cute, I had to ask where did she buy them. I found out that her daughter, age 6 was making them. Now I have a few myself. π
I love the ones created by your sweet Emily.
Hugs,
Rally
Aww that is so sweet that you know have and wear some Rally. π I am sure you have made the day of that six year old by not making fun of them. Emily loves to see me wear the ones she has made for me <3
You know what, id love to be like you when i got my own children in the future. You are very supportive! A round of applause for you! π
Aww thank you!
Great to know, Loom bands in my place are everywhere. it’s the new thing here..
they are like a disease, they spread so fast, LOL
Oh even my students are hooked to that. I requested some loom bands and they are as excited to do it.
How sweet of you to do that for them π
I’ve actually only ever seen this on blogs, my granddaughter (7yrs old) doesn’t have it either. Looks pretty interesting and fun to me though.
This would make a lovely gift for my grandson she is so into making bracelets
Amazing what goes out of fashion sooner or later comes back in
I’ve never seen this before but it’s amazing because you can make so many things with it, it all depends on how creative you are
