Rashmi’s Bakery: Food Allergy & Vegan Friendly Fare

March 3, 2014 By: MapleMouseMama16 Comments

Rashmi's Bakery /MapleMouseMamaRashmi’s Bakery is one of those finds that you hope you will never, ever have to give up.  This might be a strange way to think of a bakery when there are hundreds of them around, but Rashmi’s Bakery is not like every other bakery out there.  I discovered Rashmi’s last year when I was searching for a local place to obtain baked goods from for my food allergic son William.  As many people will tell you I am not a great asset in the kitchen so whipping up treats at the last minute doesn’t happen. With the list of birthday parties that William was being invited to growing by the day I wanted to find a place to shop that had ready made cupcakes that were safe for him to eat.  Rashmi’s Bakery to the rescue!

We have made a variety of cakes and cupcakes for William, as has his nana and grandma.  I say we, but really it has been my husband Doug. ( I do help ice though 🙂 ) Making homemade desserts is never going to change, but knowing I have a go-to place for safe items was important so the search was on.  Believe me when I say I checked out a lot of options, from the grocery story, health food stores, bakeries that service restaurants and even the odd entrepreneur trying to sell their delectables from a start up website.  It shocked me just how hard it was to find a place that made egg free, peanut free and nut free goods!  We make them at home so why had no one picked up this great idea and run with it?

rashmi's bakery, maplemousemamaI recall the day I found Rashmi’s on line.  It was not one of the first sites to pop up in the search engine ( but it is now 🙂 ) so I had to keep digging.  After reading through the information on line I am pretty sure I cried.  As any parent of a child with special needs can tell you it is pretty emotional to find the solution to an issue that affects their quality of life.  Cupcakes are not life altering, but tell that to the three year old who doesn’t get one at their friend’s party and you will see what I mean.

Rashmi’s Bakery is a family owned company, incorporated in 2007 and located in Brampton, Ontario.  They make delicious cakes and cupcakes for all occasions and these items are:

  • egg free
  • nut free
  • free from all animal derived products
  • completely moist and soft
  • freshly baked and beautifully decorated

On several occasions over the past year I have purchased cupcakes from Rashmi’s.  One of the nice things is that I can walk in and buy them right away with no pre-ordering.  For large orders, special cakes etc., they do require you order in advance, but for those last minute occasions you will have no trouble picking up something to satisfy your guests ( or your own sweet tooth 🙂 ).  A last minute item was my most recent purchase and it was something new.  Just before Valentine’s Day I wanted something I could send with William to school in his lunch bag that was fun and different from his normal treats so it had to be from Rashmi’s Bakery.  The item I chose is called a Chocolate Ball, but many will see they look just like a cake pop!

These Chocolate Balls are cake mixed with caramel instead of icing and oh my word are they ever good!  I love these!  They come dipped in white or dark chocolate and you can add in sprinkles.  The ones I picked up that day were already decorated for Valentine’s so they were perfect! Each one is a generous serving, not too sweet and oh so very moist.  The true test was my daughter Emily.  Emily does not have food allergies and is not particularly fond of the items William enjoys, but she loved the Chocolate Balls as much as I did! These are a new favorite of ours now, hands down.

For William’s birthday we decided to try out Rashmi’s cake.  I chose the chocolate layered cake with a vanilla whipped cream filling, decorated like the movie Frozen. (William is obsessed). This cake, and white dipped chocolate balls, were provided to us by Rashmi’s to help us show our Disney Side and to showcase their delicious desserts! You will be able to read more about the party soon, but suffice it to say that William’s cake was a hit!  I can honestly tell you this cake was perfection.  Moist, light and flavorful.  The icing was not too sweet and not heavily layered on.  You would never think this cake, or any of the goodies we have tried, are egg free.

Rashmi’s offers delivery to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and some surrounding cities.  They have very reasonable delivery fees, but you can also find some of Rashmi’s products in a few select locations outside of their Brampton bakery.  Rashmi’s Bakery is always looking for new businesses to offer their products so if you have a restaurant or store that you would like to see carry these yummy goodies, visit their website for more information.  I hope you go and check out Rashmi’s Bakery and see how amazing their products are for yourself.  You will not be disappointed, I promise! 🙂

What is your most favorite flavour of cake?

How nice that you would write about that delicious cake, Suzanne, and the ‘chocolate’ balls! It was very hard to believe that these items were egg free and nut free! And, yes, I definitely do believe that you cried when you found RASHMI’s BAKERY! 🙂 I hope that other parents of children with food allergies will have the pleasure of trying their very tasty products.

That’s great when companies have an option for everyone. There are so many allergies out there. Those treats look AMAZING.

Wow what a great place especially when it’s hard to find anything for a special diet. In St. Catharines, Ontario there’s an awesome place and their donuts are to die for, well figuratively anyway
