Allergy Pals By Anaphylaxis Canada

September 5, 2014 By: MapleMouseMama7 Comments

allergy palsAnaphylaxis Canada is looking for children (age 7-11) with food allergies to participate in an online peer mentorship program called Allergy Pals.  This wonderful support group is designed to help children who are at an age where they find dealing with their food allergies a little frustrating.  Grade school can be a tough place to negotiate, but when you add in an issue that makes you stand out among your peers it is often a challenge.

Allergy Pals will help your child to:

  • meet and interact with other children with food allergies
  • learn strategies for dealing with and managing food allergies
  • ask questions they may not feel comfortable asking an adult
  • share concerns they may feel will be misinterpreted by their non food allergic friends
  • gain confidence to manage their food allergies

The program will include eight weekly online support sessions, held on Sundays from September 20, 2014 until November 8, 2014. These sessions will take place over the Internet. Rest assured there will be safe and secure online meeting tools being used. The sessions will be led by older peer mentors with food allergies, under the guidance of a youth program coordinator.

To register your child in Allergy Pals, download the parent handbook or ask the program coordinator, Kyle Dine, any questions, head to the Why Risk It site.

This program was created through the Social Support Research Program at the University of Alberta and is used under license by Anaphylaxis Canada. The program is funded by a grant from TD Securities. The above information is brought to you by Why Risk It, a site for Canadian youth at risk for Anaphylaxis.

This is a great program to provide support to parents with kids with allergies.
