Back in the summer during a rainy afternoon at the cottage the kids were bored and looking for something to do. I usually have a craft or two up my sleeve for just such an occasion, but this time it was Grandma to the rescue. Hidden deep in her bag of tricks were these adorable Plastic Stained “Glass” craft kits! My mother in law had bought these so long ago that she could not recall where they came from, but I am on a quest to find out. They were so much fun that I got in on the act too and I would love to pick up a few more for rainy days or play dates.
The little kits came with everything you need to get to work. Each one had a clear, plastic “window” to paint, a paint brush and eight little pots of water based paint. Each set is perfect for a fun little craft that has a beautiful result. Oh, and it also comes with that suction cup thing so the stained “glass” can be displayed on your window.
The nice thing about this craft kit is that you don’t have to be an artist to use it. Each design is outlined in black and the plastic is raised to create a little well for your paint. Yes, as you can see from William’s first attempt it is possible to get your paint mixed up, but so what? As I tell my children their creations are unlike any other out there so be proud! The paint dries fairly fast as well, which means you don’t have to wait long to see the result of your hard work. 🙂
I was enjoying the outcome of this craft so much that I decided to get in on the act with the kiddos. This beautiful mom and baby turtle is my contribution to the craft world. What do you think?
When we were finished painting, the sun had come out so we set about displaying our artwork. I think they look lovely against the backdrop of the woods and the lake, don’t you?
What kinds of crafts do you do to keep the kiddos busy on a rainy afternoon?

These are great, I remember as a kid we would paint on the windows with poster paints, mum would go mad at us, but it was great fun nonetheless. These are a practical and much better alternative and looks like a lot of fun.
MapleMouseMama says
LOL, and just think now we can buy stuff to use directly on the windows that parents will love! Gotta love invention!

Stained glass craft is really fun and kids loved it. Another type will be the rubbery template where kids squeeze colours paint into it and they turn into some adhesive image that can be stick onto mirrors and glass (after going through the oven/dryer)…

That sounds really neat!
