Shaw Festival Presents “Peter and The Starcatcher” #Giveaway CAN/US, ends 7/1

June 7, 2015 By: MapleMouseMama21 Comments

Peter and the Starcatcher

One usually heads to the theatre when they are looking for a way to escape into a world unlike any they have lived in before.  Epic battles, love stories, broken hearts and fearsome villains are just some of the things you can find when you attend a Shaw Festival production.  This summer’s dramatization of Peter and the Starcatcher is no different.

“When I was a boy, I wished I could fly.”

I am far from an expert when it comes to stage shows, but I know what I like. To be entertained and taken to places I can only dream of. Peter and the Starcatcher reaches the child that is within us all and delights her with it’s fantastical journey to that most revered of places: Neverland!

“O, pity the child that lives in a fact-based world!”

Peter and the Starcatcher

“Based on the 2004 novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, Peter and the Starcatcher tells the story of what happened before JM Barrie’s novel Peter and Wendy. Before he became Peter Pan, the boy sails out from London on a ship headed for unknown shores, just one of three terrified, lonely orphans. When the ship’s precious cargo, a trunk of stardust, starts a battle between the British Empire, the infamous pirate captain Black Stache, and scheming ship captains, a young girl named Molly Aster bravely leads the boy straight into adventure. After a rousing battle between the three ships and a harrowing escape into the water, all the travellers land on Mollusk Island where a pack of Italian-cuisine-inspired natives join the battle with their extremely large crocodile, Mister Grin. With the help of Molly’s nanny Miss Bumbrake, the other orphans Ted and Prentiss, and the power of storytelling, Molly and Peter fight to keep the stardust safe from Black Stache and other selfish villains – and maybe learn what sacrifices it takes to grow up.”

Peter and the Starcatcher

Peter and the Starcatcher first debuted on Broadway in 2012 and went on to win five Tony Awards! It has been delighting audiences ever since and The Shaw Festival invites you to experience it.  Both the young and those who are young at heart will want to explore this fantastic, witty and highly theatrical world on the Royal George stage in the picturesque Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario.  The show is geared towards those ages 8 and older and runs two and a half hours, including intermission. You can catch this production of Peter and the Starcatcher from now until November 2015.

And we have some great news! One lucky reader of MapleMouseMama will win two tickets to a performance of their choosing of Peter and the Starcatcher!! Just enter via the Rafflecopter widget below. I Love the Peter and the Starcatcher books! I read them to my kids when they were younger, and the musical was on my list to see when Katie and I went to New York. It was new then, and hard to get tickets to. How fabulous it is to have it playing at the Shaw festival!! (hope I win!!)

I don’t remember ever seeing a stage production but I would love to see anything by ABBA or The Sound of Music.

Seeing something at the Shaw Festival is also on my bucket list.

We are a theatre-loving family so picking one favourite show is very difficult! Les Miserables has always been a favourite of mine though – particularly the version staged by Etobicoke Musical Productions last fall featuring my younger daughter as Little Cosette!
