My favorite holiday tradition is on Christmas Eve, we have a family relaxed get together with all kinds of food. The children get to open a present which is usually new pajamas. We stay up late and leave the cookies and milk for Santa, he always eats them up.

I like to get a real tree to decorate as this was a dream when I was still in the Philippines. I once saw real trees in Singapore but, they were not cheap. They’re still not cheap in Asia as fir trees from North America are imported. Getting them here fresh is a real treat. Christmas is also the only time of the year that I get to take care of a real tree indoors. So, I ook forward to getting the tree and decorating it with LED lights and ornaments. At night when the lights are off or before going to bed, I like to sit and gaze at the tree with the changing LED lights. It fills me with wonder at being able to enjoy the beauty of the season and the atmosphere of having a living and aroma giving tree in my home. Gazing at the tree calms me down. I feel sad when the time comes to saw it in pieces for recycling.

Every year my Children’s school has a Christmas store, where the students can do their own Christmas shopping (everything is $1.00). All the items are donated, and students volunteer to do all the wrapping. It is always funny seeing what the kids picked out for everybody on Christmas day. 🙂
