experience gift idea

There is always that someone on your gift giving list that is tough to buy for. They already have all the latest gadgets and trendy clothes and if they want something they just go out and get it for themselves. Drives you nuts, right? One of the very cool things I have found to give as a gift is an experience. Think big like a helicopter ride or bungee jumping, not small like going to the movies (although this is a great gift too!) An experience is typically something you would not think to get for yourself, right, so the holidays are the perfect time to get it for someone you love. If you’re lucky, maybe they will take you along for the ride. šŸ™‚ Giving the gift of an experience is as easy as ordering a gift certificate.

One such experience is a day trip to Scenic Caves Nature Adventure, near Collingwood, Ontario. Scenic Caves is a year round wonderland that offers a ton of things to do. During the winter the park is open for activities like cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Ā Trails wind through the 200 year old forest just teeming with wildlife like deer and winter owls with a large variety of birds making their homes in the 100 foot tall maple, beech and oak trees. Traversing 420 feet over Southern Ontario’s longest suspension bridge will leave you breathless from the views and gorgeous landscape. And don’t worry, there is even a beautiful chalet where you can rest with a cup of hot chocolate and wax your skis. Rentals of both cross country and snowshoeing equipment is available.

Scenic Caves

Beautiful views from the suspension bridge.

Scenic Caves

Cross country skiing on a beautiful day!

The summer season brings even more opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Considered to be one of Canada’s “great natural wonders” the Scenic Caves offer:

  • Self-guided walking trails through caves and caverns carved millions of years ago by glacial ice
  • A historic village site, home of the ā€œDeer Tribeā€ of the Petun First Nations people
  • Eighteen unique geological rock features
  • Numerous spectacular lookouts with panoramic views of 10,000 square kilometers of Georgian Bay
  • Situated at the highest point of the Niagara Escarpment,Ā set in one of Canada’sĀ sixteen UNESCO biosphere reserves

But that’s not it! The Scenic Caves Nature Adventure park has more for the thrill seeker with the half mile long Thunderbird Twin Zip line that features unique technology giving the rider the ability to control their own speed! The fun doesn’t end there as Scenic Caves takes care of the whole family. You can enjoy:

  • The cool Gemstone Mining Adventure
  • Ride on Rocky the Train
  • Explore the huge Children’s Adventure Playground
  • Have a picnic by the charmingĀ trout pond and feed the fish
  • After exploring the caves and suspension bridge play a round of Mini Golf

That bridge is awesome and I wasn’t aware of it even though I live in Southern Ontario. I’d like to check it out but whether I’m brave enough to go on is another thing.

We went to Scenic Caves this summer and my daughter loved panning for gold (they brought back their finds and are still playing with them) and my son loved the mini golf. There is so much to see and do there!

The Scenic Caves in Collingwood used to be one of my mother’s favourite places in her youth! She took me and my brother there once when I was 10 years old! I don’t think they had zip-lining then but I’m not positive. I would love to take my family there! My kids are just the right age, and zip-lining is on my bucket-list! Gotta check out the caves first though! If I remember correctly some of the caves that you could go through had funny titles like “tall man’s misery” and “fat man’s misery” šŸ™‚
