Do you smoke?
I never have, but I grew up around smokers. My hubby was also a smoker, but I can proudly say he kicked the habit a long time ago now and I am so happy he did. But it is shocking to see my kids pretend to smoke! The most recent example was during the holidays when my youngest had a candy cane. He pretended to “smoke” it and asked , “How cool am I?” He thought it was funny, but I was taken aback.
I think part of the problem is how movies and TV shows condone and even promote smoking. Yes, the responsibility starts at home, but our media has to shoulder some of that. So many iconic characters smoke, like good ole oo7 – James Bond. If you’ve been reading the news, you’ll know the World Health Organization has called for all films portraying smoking to be given a 18 rating to protect children from exposure to the ‘last frontier’ in tobacco promotion.

What I was most surprised to see was that a 2 yr old had a 40-a-day habit, at that age I didn’t think he’d be able to use a lighter nor matches!
Not surprised by much here…..but the “no smoking near apple computers” is pretty funny!
actually I we had this convo about how there are so few smokers now on tv shows (we only watch netflix so that’s what we are going by) I don’t know what tv series we were watching but both of us commented on how its not very common to see anyone smoke!! Both of us used to smoke and sadly my son smokes (he’s 22). I think the only tv show I watched recently that smoked was maybe Lost?
I tend to agree with Sabina. Although I don’t watch a lot of the regular Prime Time hits, I don’t notice anyone smoking on the few shows that I watch. Actually, I was recently surprised to see a soap opera character offer a visitor a drink because that ‘every day all the time” use of alcohol went out of favour on the soaps years ago! What surprised me about this article are the number of actors who smoke in private life! Maybe the stress and tension of wondering if they will get another contract causes them to resort to cigarettes. Compared to my younger days, when every character smoked, I don’t think it is so bad, really.

I was surprised to learn that the singer Adele was a heavy smoker, but she has quit now.
My uncle was a smoker, and as he quit smoking, he bought lottery tickets instead of cigarettes … and he actually won the 2nd prize in Lotto 6/49 in the late-80’s.
I am super embarrassed to admit it but I am STILL a smoker and HATE it but the one thing that makes me happy is seeing
how the younger generation seems to be getting IT AND NOT SMOKING!! Hopefully it stays that way cuz what a waste of money and your health!!!
I didn’t know Kate Wlnslet smokes. I wish people wouldn’t start smoking because nothing good can come from it. Cigarette smoke contains thousands of chemicals which significantly increases the risk of cancer.
