For those of you who have no idea what DISboards.com refers to well, let me explain. 🙂 Awhile back, about six years ago, I was introduced to a wonderful lady who shared my love / obsession with all things Disney. This lady, Nelly, is a co-worker and although we both work for the same company, we had never met. I was planning my daughter’s first trip to the World and someone mentioned Nelly and how we should meet ’cause we both seemed to love Mickey. Nelly and I did meet up and became fast friends! One of the first things she asked me was, “Are you on the DIS boards?” I had never heard of the DIS, but it took no time to check it out and I was hooked!
The DIS boards is an on-line community or site where lovers of Disney and it’s magic can come together and ask questions, post thoughts and opinions, share trip reports and celebrate special vacations. But that is not all. The DIS has several forums or categories, ranging from trip planning, where you can ask and answer questions for anyone taking a trip home to the DVC forums for those who have, want to have or are just interested in learning about the Disney Vacation Club! There is the Global Neighbors area where you can chat about Disneyland Paris, Tokyo Disneyland and even, gasp 🙂 a Canadian forum. 🙂 My favorite is the Just For Fun group where you will find the Community boards. This area is used for just about anything that you want and this is the area that drew me back to the DIS tonight.
The Community group has had a thread on it for the past six years that is dedicated to the men and women who have applied to the Disney Moms Panel and this year is no exception. It was so nice to reconnect with this board, the thread and this group. Many wonderful friendships developed from this very place and I can confidently state that current Moms Panelists are among them. I am pretty sure that the DIS was the first social media outlet where the panel wannabes connected with each other. At least it was for me.
On the DIS I am known as “pl’smama“, although if I had my way I would change it to MapleMouseMama. However, I like my history on the DIS (over one thousand posts) so pl’smama it is. 🙂 This brings to mind a memory from a Disney trip we took in 2008. Right around the height of my DIS boards obsession. For our trip I made myself a name tag to wear on my pin lanyard. This name tag had a lime green Hidden Mickey with Pl’smama on it. 🙂 Yeah, I was pretty cool. The idea of these name tags was to be recognized by other DISers, maybe strike up a conversation. Well, it worked! Not a lot, but I did have a CM at Le Cellier in Epcot notice my tag and chat me up. Turns out he was a DISer to! I felt pretty darn special that day. The power of Disney magic.
I discovered there is an iPhone app for the DIS so tonight I downloaded it and tested it out! It is pretty cool and will certainly help me get reconnected to the DISer community. So, if you are on the DIS look for me and feel free to leave your DIS name in the comments. It is not as up to the minute as Twitter, but it is just as fun! I look forward to the coming weeks when the names of those who have advanced to Round 2 are announced. With any luck my name will be among them. 🙂

I am mickeymom69, but I admit I seem to go on the boards sporadically. I will be on there for a few weeks at a time and then will be off for a week or two.
I am sure I have seen you around MaryBeth 🙂 I was a very regular follower on the DIS for years, but FB really changed that. But I always did go back and check the Moms Panel thread each year during application time. But every time I did not make it past R1 it would get depressing to read the happy news of others. Sour grapes, I suppose 🙁 I would see negative comments that others made and refrain from saying anything because that is not in the spirit of Disney, but being cheerful all the time could be hard to. However, the FB group is easier to follow, for me anyway and I really enjoy getting to know people through FB. You can see photos of them, learn about them..just much more personal, ya know? Having said that I am going to be checking out the DIS more often now that I have added the mobile app to my phone!
