Long On Talent, ‘The Big Short’ Will Entertain – #Win It On DVD – Canada, ends 4/30

April 12, 2016 By: MapleMouseMama30 Comments

the big final giveaway

Named one of the top ten films of the year by The Wall Street Journal and several other prominent publications, the movie The Big Short, based on the book  by author Michael Lewis, is an interesting mix of advanced finance class, tragic comedy and pretty good acting by the four big names that headline.  I am sure you remember the financial crisis that hit the US economy in 2007, right? Well, The Big Short producers sure do and the resultant movie will capture your attention right from the start.

If you have heard anything about The Big Short, then you know it is full of weird financial jargon that would confuse anyone. Thankfully cutie Ryan Gosling provides a voice over that keeps us in the know, but it is the cameos from several other famous names that help to pick up the pace of The Big Short. Throughout the movie the action stops so that a celebrity, like Selena Gomez, can provide an explanation for some recondite fiscal terms like synthetic collateralized debt obligations (CDOs).

The Giveaway!

To explain more about the movie would be to give it all away so rather than doing that, let’s just give a copy of the DVD away instead! One lucky MapleMouseMama reader is going to win their very own DVD copy of The Big Short! To be eligible to win just complete the Rafflecopter below with your qualifying answers. This giveaway is open to Canadian residents, ages 18 and older.  Please read our giveaway rules before entering. This giveaway ends on April 30th, 2016 at 11:59pm.  Good luck!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Tell the truth, did you know what a synthetic collateralized debt obligation is? I sure didn’t. 🙂

As I understand it they are betting on failed credit loans, but it’s complex and I don’t get the whole gist of it. I know they do this with mortgages, at least in the US, where they sell off a bunch of bad mortgage loans expecting the borrower to default for foreclosure. It’s really a horrible system. I have never seen this movie, but have wanted to since it came out.. Thank you for the giveaway!
