Anyone ever had a pancake puppy? Today I had my very first one and it is safe to say that I will probably have more in the future. 🙂 My little family and I had an early start to the day. My kids were getting their photos taken at the portrait studio at 9am, so we decided to go for breakfast afterward. The studio is located in the Great Canadian Super Center and today they were having a big sale, NO TAX! This meant that breakfast was delayed a bit, cause who can pass up that kind of savings. 🙂 In the end we might as well have. We spent over two hundred dollars, mostly on groceries and only saved seven dollars. I kid you not. 🙁 Well, we needed the groceries at any rate. After that it was off to have brunch!
We have to be careful when we eat out because my sweet son William is allergic to eggs and nuts. I love to have breakfast “out”, but it is a rarity for me, so I was planning on taking full advantage of this brunch ( not to mention we were all really hungry by then). Our rumbling tummies led us to Denny’s where it was wall to wall people. It is Sunday, so I expected a crowd and was not let down. Fortunately this Denny’s is pretty big, so we were seated fairly quickly. Now it was menu time!! I already knew what I wanted; I am a French Toast connoisseur so that is what I ordered. It was then that our server mentioned that they had a little sale on today. I thought that was odd for a restaurant so I didn’t really pay attention. I had my eye on the prize; French Toast. Thankfully my husband was paying attention.
Our food came and everyone chowed down. Breakfast food for Emily and I and burgers and fries for the boys. This was brunch after all. Then Doug decided to order the special sale item, just to try it out. Currently Denny’s is running a promotion for the new movie, The Hobbit and the special was related to it. That special sale item was Radagast’s Red Velvet Pancake Puppies! I am assuming that Radagast is from the movie and man does he make a mean Pancake Puppy. Holy moly these were good! I mean delicious!! Unfortunately poor William could not have them because of the egg, but he did not seem to mind. He loves french fries and was content with those. I did make it up to him later on and bought him some Skiddles.
So Red Velvet Pancake Puppies look kind of like a Tim Bit, which for my American friends, is a donut bite or donut hole. These had the consistency of a cake donut, but were made from pancake batter. I have no idea how they got the Red Velvet in there, but it was a smart idea! These Pancake Puppies also had white chocolate chips in them. I love white chocolate! What a combo! The pups are then fried and rolled in powered sugar and served hot! The icing on the pancake is, well, icing! Cream cheese icing to be exact and it was yummy! We enjoyed them so much and they were on sale….so we bought some for home. 🙂 My train of thought was that, well, I would be thinking about them for the rest of the day, so why not just take advantage of the sale!
So, just in case you want to try something new I suggest you head on over to Denny’s and give these puppies a try. They are mmm, mmm good. 🙂
