Catching up with Emily and William…

December 21, 2012 By: MapleMouseMama1 Comment

Cute little Squampy-pomper

With the craziness of this time of year I find myself jotting notes on the cute things that the kids, mostly William, come up with.  Emily, being almost ten, is still funny, but her comments tend to be more mature now a days.  Kind of sad, but it is part of the circle of life. 🙁  Anyway, tonight at bedtime William came out with the weirdest thing.  He started off by saying that he was at a store today, looking for new parents to buy and he saw lots of different ones.  He proceeded to tell me they were all different colours; some white, some were black and even a few yellow and red ones.  At this point I am thinking, “what the heck is he talking about?”  William  didn’t stop there though.  He then said that he was looking at the mommies and there was some with glasses and some without, but he wanted the one with glasses because I am his only mama and I wear glasses ( it’s true, I do wear glasses)! Too cute. 🙂

I asked him if he bought the mama ( he did say he was at a store) and he put up his hand and said, “I’m not done.”  Then William said he was looking for the daddy and they were all different colours to.  There were white ones and black ones and even a blue one ( said with all the seriousness in the world, I might add).  But William just wanted the daddy with hair on his arms because his daddy has hair on his arms ( sorry Doug 🙂 )  At that point I didn’t know whether to laugh or not, so I just said that it sounded like an interesting day.  His answer was, “yeah, it was” and that was it!  Too funny!

William then proceeded to serenade me with Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star, sang in a slow and sweet voice.  When he was done he asked me to sing it to him and said, “but don’t sing fast like twinkle, twinkle, little star, just sing slowly to me” which I proceeded to do. 🙂  Love this little man…

Miss Emily certainly has been a challenge lately and I sometimes question my parenting.  I suppose it is part of puberty and a child’s growth to be happy as a clam one moment and sullen as all get out the next.  She could try the patience of a saint, that girl!  But when she lets herself relax and not worry about the day’s events, Emily can be so sweet to hang with.  She gets William laughing by wrestling with him and letting him win.  She will sit and do a puzzle with her little brother or play cars with him.  Every Thursday they race to bring up the garbage and recycle containers from the bottom of the driveway and miraculously William always wins.  Thanks for being a great big sister sweet girl. 🙂

I am so grateful for the blessings in my life, most especially for Emily and William.  They try my patience and can drive me crazy, but they are my world and I love them so very, very much.  They keep us on our toes, entertaining and challenging us at the same time.  We are very, very lucky…

To those sweet little angels who went to Heaven far too early last week, all twenty of them, I ask God to keep them safe and let them rest peacefully in His embrace.  For the moms, dads, sisters, brothers and other family and friends that were left behind, please know that your children have brought to light the seriousness of the safety of our children and our schools and their passing, while horribly painful, was not in vain.  God be with you all…
