As we finally start to see the first signs of spring, I am reminded of how quickly the seasons change (although this winter has been dragging on for a bit longer.) The faster things move, the more we miss. Opportunities to make special memories, take fun photos and even enjoy a quiet evening with a book may be overlooked because we are always on the go or thinking of the next thing on our to-do lists. It is time to change that and slow things down. Celebrate the small and big things.
One way to do that is to plan ahead! We have one month to go until Mother’s Day is here, so start thinking now about how you can honour the lady who gave you life! Don’t forget about the other moms out there, like grandmothers, aunts, sisters, cousins and friends. Remember those who became mamas in non-traditional ways like through adoption or foster parenting. My favourite Mother’s Day tradition is getting to go away on a Girls Weekend with my other Mommy Girlfriends to get some much-needed time away from the family! As much as I love them it’s nice to get away and take time for JUST me. Every year we pick a new destination and go for the weekend. It’s a ton of fun! I think we have just as much fun planning it and looking forward to it than the actual weekend! It’s always filled with warmth, kindness, support, love, and of course – LOTS of wine! LOL

My now favorite Mother’s Day tradition is taking a new silk flower arrangement to my mom’s grave. I clean off the stone, put the flowers in the pot and take photos. I lost my mom to cancer 15 years ago and she was only 58. I love and miss her so very much every single day.

NO tradition here, I work for a living so most weekends are spent just sleeping. There is a workers shortage here and we are all doing way to much OT. My favorite Mothers Day tradition is going out to eat just me and my momma. My grandma passed closed to mothers day in 1999, and it can be really hard for my mom to celebrate it. So I always try to make it special for her that’s kind of my own tradition. I try to keep her from feeling so sad bc her momma isn’t here to celebrate with us bc of cancer so I just is I try to make it happy and special not to make her forget my grandma but to make her feel like maybe my grandma is there celebrating with us even if it’s not physically there.

Every mother’s day my husband and kids treat me with breakfast in bed! Best thing ever! Plus there are gifts. Hand made from kids and usually something I’ve been dropping hints about from my man. Evenings are reserved from my mother. I take her out shopping and the while family dines together at the end. Mil has sadly passed away since quite a few years. When she was alive we took her for out for a movie. Whatever she had picked.

My family gets together to have a fantastic brunch st a seasonal beach restaurant that opens for the season on mother’s dsy. Both sides of the family come together and we get to reconnect with a number of relatives. It’s a great, refreshing day.
