From the moment I first started this blog over two years ago I had plans to showcase a different Disney character each week or so. Nothing to ambitious, just a way to share some of the more obscure characters as well as the more well known ones. It is no secret that I love all things Disney and this is just a way of keeping the magic alive for me and for anyone else who cares to read along.
For my first installment of Characters In Colour I thought I would go with a character from one of my favorite Disney movies, “The Little Mermaid.” It is not the main character, as one might expect, but rather a minor one. That character is Princess Adella and she is a mermaid! She is one of Ariel’s six sisters and daughter of King Triton and his late wife Queen Athena. Adella has a dark yellow tail and wears a green seashell bra. She has long dark hair worn in a ponytail with a pearly headpiece that matches the colour of her tail. Her eyes are a lovely shade of teal and unfortunately the artist who sketched the story saw fit to change her appearance from being “plump” to “normal” just like the other mermaids. If you ask me I think this sends out the wrong message. I won’t rant about it, but I think you catch my drift here. Adella is known for being somewhat vain and has a penchant for flirting with merboys.
While Adella appears in every one of the “The Little Mermaid“ movies she does not have a significant role. In all her appearances she is with the other sisters, either singing songs for the king or just hanging out. She does have a cool special ability and that is she can remove the King’s Triton from it’s stand. Not everyone can do this ya know. Adella does have a speaking role and she is voiced by Tara Strong. Interesting fact, Tara is a well known voice over artist. She is probably best known for playing Timmy Turner in “The Fairly Odd Parents”! Another role of note for Tara is voicing Melody, the daughter of Ariel, in “The Little Mermaid ll: Return to the Sea.” Princess Adella is Melody’s aunt!
So there you have it, a bit of Disney trivia in the form of Characters In Colour! I hope you enjoyed it and will return for more next week!

And Ariel, of course.
LOL, yes we can not forget Scuttle. He is a panic!
Hmmm… the bit about being able to remove the King’s triton from it’s stand confused me. I thought anyone of his bloodline could do this? I mean, isn’t that sort of the whole plot for The Little Mermaid II?
Yes, you are correct that anyone of his bloodline can remove the Triton, which makes it a unique ability since not any ole mermaid/merman can remove it..
I like learning knew things…especially where I have heard actor’s voices before! Thanks!
That’s great, I am glad you enjoyed it Heather, thank you
