Toronto weather is a tricky thing, sometimes it’s freezing, sometimes it rains, but on Friday, May 30th, it was a perfect spring evening. I can’t put into words how excited I was to travel to Wychwood Barns after a long week to attend CraveTO and eat some local food! For those of you that don’t know what CraveTO is, it’s a Toronto premier street food and craft beer event set to the soundtrack of Toronto DJs. If you’re not already following them on Facebook, I highly encourage you to do so, I promise you’ll be drooling in no time. When we arrived, we were greeted by some lovely staff who gave us a complimentary drink ticket and then had a charming gentleman take us on a tour of the venue. We were pointed where to buy drinks, some of his favourite street food recommendations and where the best spots to sit on the grass were located.
We then set off to purchase some drink tickets, which were really well priced ($20.00 for 8 tickets; 2 tickets per beer). Then we headed to the many, many food trucks. From Tocino Boys, we devoured a bacon burgerā¦ I’m not going to lie, it was their smoky BBQ fumes that pulled us in and I’m still thinking about that burger 4 days later. š There was a huge lineup for Food Dudes, but at an event like this, long lineups = GREAT food. We knew we were in the right lineup when we watched people who had just received their food take one bite and grin with satisfaction. There were delicious Jamaican patties for a whopping $1.60 (I won’t tell you how many I ate). And one of my favourite booths was The Sassy Lamb cupcake booth. Immediately intrigued by the name ‘Great Canadian Mancake’, I bought one of their adorable cupcakes that was a peanut butter cupcake, with maple icing and bacon on top. This is just some of the great food that appeared at this fabulous event; there was so many more booths I wish I could have tried, but alas my waist band was not having it.
The best thing about this event is that none of the food exceeded $5.00. In Toronto, that’s unheard of, so if you haven’t had the opportunity to visit a CraveTO event, I highly recommend checking one out. It’s not just for 20-30 somethings either, there were families, grandparents and lots of kids running around. This is the perfect event to take your out of town friends to so they can experience how great Toronto is and how deliciousĀ Toronto’s local food can taste.
The next CraveTO event was just announced – it’ll be on June 26th in the Honest Ed’s Alley. Details can be found here.
What do you crave most in the summer?

That sounds like a great even. I love that thought of tasting foods and beverages I might not otherwise get a chance to, or might not think to try. Be great if it is expanded to other local locations I think it would be a big hit!
MapleMouseMama says
I agree Cathy and I think it is even possible that the areas will expand. After all they are food trucks, LOL. We can only hope! Thanks for stopping in Cathy,I appreciate it.
