When I started this little piece of the net I call MapleMouseMama ( three years ago!) I had no idea that the community of Disney writers was as large, diverse and wonderful as it is. These amazing people all share a common love for the Main Mouse Mickey, but they also share another interest. That interest is to help brighten and change the lives of critically and terminally ill children from all over the world. How does one bring about that change? By raising money for Give Kids The World.
Give Kids The World (GKTW) is found in Central Florida and it is a magical village where children with life threatening illnesses, and their families can go to have fun, eat ice cream and create ever lasting memories. GKTW is a non profit organization that allows a family to have a week long vacation while staying at their beautiful and creative Village. All expenses are paid for, including tickets to area parks and attractions so that these families can make the most of their time together. GKTW brings hope and maybe even some freedom from medical appointments, machines and medicine for a few days. These wonderful vacations are made possible from the generous donations of people like you and I. The Village is staffed by tons of volunteers who put their hearts into the time they spend there.Fundraising around the world was taken to new heights this summer with the debut of the Ice Bucket Challenge. Many wonderful charities are benefiting from it and now Give Kids The World can be added to that list. A group of amazing people, The Disney Writers United, have come together under the guidance of Disney Gal herself Gayle Turner and Janice Brady from The Adult Side of Disney, to take a step out of their comfort (and dry) zones and take the Ice Bucket Challenge for Give Kids The World!!
This amazing challenge recently kicked off in a big way with the faculty and staff of Madrone Elementary School in Santa Rosa, California where Gayle is a teacher. These wonderful folks want the world to know that they are “Connected, Committed and Care about the magical families at Give Kids The World Village.“

So now The Disney Writers United are challenging not only each other, but you dear reader to help us raise money for Give Kids The World. You can tape your own Ice Bucket Challenge or share another creative way you came to support Give Kids The World. Just a couple of years ago my Emily made and sold bracelets to raise funds for GKTW. This just proves that anyone, at any age, can get involved.
Please take a moment to visit our fundraising page at Give Kids The World Disney Writers United. Just think of the difference we could make in the lives of each of these families. When you’re done, be sure to tag your friends in your video or post and ask them to help you take up this call to action. Lastly be sure to leave in the comments below a link to your video or post, or let us know that you have joined in with The Disney Gals, The Adult Side of Disney and the Disney Writers United to help make dreams come true. All comments will be entered to win a Disney Gift Basket Assortment full of prizes for young and old alike as well as a $25 Disney Gift Card. Winners will be picked by random number generator on September 1, 2014 at 5:00 pm EST. Help make dreams come true and show the world what the power of faith, trust and pixie dust is all about. Volunteering should be a family event. Our family volunteers for Homefront Cancer Services in Stoney Creek. 8 in my family, between my two sisters, 18 in total, oh and I forgot my Mom who still helps out with what she can. Volunteering is just part of our lives
That is lovely Darlene..
