It has been all over the airwaves and surfing the web for the past couple of days: the news from the D23 EXPO 2015 held in Anaheim, California, that is. This yearly event draws fans from all over the world and boasts the sharing of some wonderfully magical news each time it is held. This year is proving to be no different. While I am not there to learn of the news first hand, it is not too hard to find out the great surprises Disney has in store for the coming months. In fact, I have ears on the ground, so to speak. For up-to-the minute news of the D23 EXPO I suggest you follow along with the Disney Gals blog, as well as on Twitter (@DisneyGals) and Facebook. In the meantime I thought I would share some of the more exciting tidbits with you here.
There are quite a few new live action films in the works and they are sure to be blockbusters in their own right. The one I am most looking forward to would have to be Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” starring the hunky Chris Evans:
Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain. The film opens in the U.S. on May 16, 2016.
One for the youngest kiddos in your household to watch for will be the live action “The Jungle Book” starring cute new-comer Neel Sethi, who plays Mowgli. Rounding out the cast will be Ben Kingsley as Bagheera, Mowgli’s panther-mentor; Lupita Nyong’o as the protective mama wolf Rakhsa and Bill Murry as lovable Baloo. The all-new, live-action epic adventure showcases Mowgli’s journey of self-discovery when he’s forced to abandon the only home he’s ever known. “The Jungle Book” opens in theatres on April 15th, 2016.
The kiddos will also have a classic to look forward to. Disney has re-imagined “Pete’s Dragon,” the heartwarming adventure of an orphaned boy named Pete and his best friend Elliott, who just so happens to be a dragon. This story has a special place in my heart and I am excited to share it with my own children. It is a bonus that Mr. Robert Redford will be lending his acting chops to this great movie. “Pete’s Dragon” opens in U.S. theaters on August 12, 2016.
Now here’s one for the ladies out there! None other than that hottie, Captain Jack Sparrow will be hitting the high seas in “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.” How’s that for news. The only thing is we will have to wait until July 17th, 2017 for this baby to arrive.
Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.

Don’t you wish you could have been there too Suzanne??! Thank goodness we have good friends in high places. 😉 I couldn’t keep up with all of the blockbuster info coming out of D23, but the Pirates of the Caribbean announcement certainly stood out. Now to find something to distract us until July 2017…!

I really enjoyed the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie so the next one is hopefully just as good. I’m also looking forward to The Jungle Book and I’m sure that my grandchildren will enjoy that one too.
