There really isn’t anything better than going to the movies, especially if that movie stars the handsome Jon Hamm. Last week, I got the opportunity to see an advanced screening of Million Dollar Arm and I’d advise you to bring some tissues with you when you bring the family to go see this movie.
The movie is based on the real life story of baseball pitchers Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel who were discovered by sports agent J.B. Bernstein after winning a reality show competition in India, aptly named ‘The Million Dollar Arm’. The two young boys travel to L.A. where things are a lot different than their home town. Things like pizza and elevators are a whole new concept and after a brief misunderstanding at their hotel, the boys are required to live with Mr. J.B. at his home. Of course, J.B. is accustomed to a certain lifestyle that doesn’t really gel well with his new houseguests and rather than feeling at home, the two boys struggle with their new surroundings and the man that brought them to America.
In an effort to prove their worth, they try to work harder at learning baseball (originally, the only sport they knew was cricket and throwing javelin). They slowly start to learn the game, but not without feeling an immense sense of pressure. Cracks begin to form and lessons are learned.
This is a heartwarming film that not only teaches the audience the importance of perseverance, but also showcases that the word family can come to mean much more than the biological family you’re born into. This movie can be enjoyed by all; adults and children and remember… don’t forget to bring the tissues!
I also thought of trying to take this picture home… but alas, I thought I’d leave it for the theatre’s use. hehehe.
Are you a fan of feelgood movies or are they just too mushy for you? 🙂

I read the last sentence, looked at the picture, and thought “Wait, this is not Suzanne!” lol I saw some ads on TV about this movie and also thought it might be one that I would make the sacrifice for and travel to see it in the theatre. Thanks for the ‘heads up’ re: tissues!
