It is hard to believe, but the seventh installment from the “Air Buddies” franchise, “Super Buddies” was just released on DVD, August 27th 2013. In case you did not know, this sweet group of movies are spin-offs of the “Air Bud” series. The “Air Bud” series was about a sports playing Golden Retriever named, wait for it…try and guess…don’t know yet? The doggie’s name was Buddy! The “Air Bud” series released an impressive five movies, but the spin-off series, “Air Buddies” has released seven as well as two special holiday movies. The “Buddies“, as they are affectionately called by their kid owners in the movies, are five absolutely adorable golden pups, the offspring of Buddy. The pups have their share of fun and adventure in the series and “Super Buddies” is the latest.
I was recently provided with a copy of “Super Buddies” to review and share with ya’all. I sat down to watch it with my little critics, aged ten and four and in their unaltered words the movie was “cool“, “awesome“, “precious” and “awesome” again. Here is a brief synopsis of the movie from Disney itself:
“Watch the fur fly as a new breed of super hero is born in Disney’s fun-filled epic adventure. An ordinary day at Fernfield Farms turns extraordinary when Budderball, Mudbud, B-Dawg, Buddha and Rosebud discover mysterious rings that grant them each a unique super power. Before you can say, “Buddies, assemble,” the pups unleash their amazing abilities and race to the rescue when a shape-shifting bully from outer space threatens the planet. But can they succeed in kicking major tail without revealing their new secret identities?”
From a child’s perspective it is a great movie. Even with a six year age gap between my two kiddos they still had very similar feelings toward the movie. The pups are adorable. The costumes and antics the pups get into are a riot. Emily took great pleasure in sharing the names of the actors and actresses she recognized, both human and canine. William just wants a puppy of his own and no, he is not getting one. From a parent’s perspective this is the type of movie I want my kids to love. There is no foul language, the kid owners are kind and responsible role models who care for the pups ever so much and the story line is just far enough “out there” to keep them believing in make believe. ♥ Parents will also be happy to see John Ratzenberger, a Disney Pixar staple, with a main character role. That being said, one viewing is enough for me. The kids will enjoy it over and over, but my favorite movies in the series are still “Snow Buddies” and “Space Buddies.”
As mentioned I was provided with a copy of “Super Buddies” on DVD by Walt Disney Motion Pictures Canada to review and share. The opinions expressed above are mine and mine alone. Oops sorry, they are mine and Emily’s and William’s, not Disney’s.
“Super Buddies” is now available for purchase on DVD anywhere you can buy DVD’s and it will make a great addition to your family library of cute movies.
What is your most favorite movie in the “Air Buddies” series?
