Mostly I am writing this post to keep today in my mind, the details anyway. I won’t soon forget the events, but I want it in a place I can refer to if I need to. William suffered his first, and hopefully last seizure today. He has been sick all weekend with a cough and cold, runny nose and fever. He was sick in this same manner about three weeks ago and his fever kept coming back. At the time we were told he had a throat infection and he was prescribed an antibiotic. Oddly enough about five days passed and he was no better. And the fevers returned. Back to the doctor we went and were told that William was resistant to the first drug and had now developed an ear infection. Another drug was prescribed and after a week William was better. Then this week it all started again on Good Friday. William had a runny nose, cough was starting up and the fevers returned. Being the sweet little happy camper he usually is, he did not complain about it. We went about our day, gave him Tylenol for his fever and he improved.
Until Friday night that is. The fever returned and with it came an asthma attack. Back on March 16th the same thing had happened, only William was at the sitter’s. The doctor told us then that a high fever will bring on an asthma attack. So, I was on high alert for an attack this weekend and sure enough he had one or two, but small ones. Emergency puffers and the fever meds helped return William to his normal, sweet self.
Today was another story. Today began with a 104 plus fever in the early morning and meds were given. He threw it all up shortly after, along with a ton of mucus. That was actually a good thing. The rest of the morning, Easter morning no less, was spent with cuddles and Special Agent Oso for young William, plus his milky. He slept on and off, but the fever returned. Doug and I talked about visiting the walk in when we got back home. That was another kicker. We were at my folks place in Wasaga Beach, a two hour drive away from home! So, I went to church with Emily thinking we would have to leave soon to get to the doctor’s. That never happened. Shortly after returning from Mass William had a seizure. He had already had an asthma attack whilst we were out and since his fever had returned Doug gave him his meds. But the seizure was unreal and so unexpected.
Papa called 911 and Doug took hold of the situation. Thank heavens he did. I have to admit that I freaked a bit and Emily was a wreck. The paramedics seemed to take a lifetime to get here, but fortunately William was coming around by then. Still totally out of it, but breathing. That was the other thing. His face, around his mouth, had started to turn blue! It was awful to see and I felt so helpless 🙁 William and I rode to the hospital in the ambulance and he was such a trooper. Being in Wasaga Beach meant a 25 minute ride to the hospital and it was raining. But my boy napped and did a good job of being brave. The hospital was great and started treatment right away. He had to endure some pretty yucky things, like an intravenous, chest x-ray and some other stuff, but the end result was good. All clear, but he has a viral infection. He was covered in a red rash that made things appear worse. The good news is he will get better, it is just going to take time. The not so great news is he is already prone to asthma, exzema and his allergies (egg and peanut), but now we can add seizures to the list.
Thank you to our family and friends for their love and support. It is always appeciated and helps get through the tough times. We are so blessed to have our beautiful children!

Oh my gosh!! How scary that must have been. I can’t imagine how agonizing that must have been for you. I hope all is well now??

Thanks Cass, yeah it was a pretty horrific time. I hope to never, ever see a seizure again, with my child or anyone else’s. My poor son has his share of issues and that day was just one thing after the other. But he and his sister are almost back to their old selves again, thankfully. The power of rest and medication 🙂 Thanks for asking though, I appreciate it 🙂
