I STILL BELIEVE is a movie that was on my radar after my daughter Emily mentioned it last year. I am pretty sure it caught her attention because of it’s male lead, played by Riverdale star KJ Apa. 🙂 Emily and I have been watching the popular show together so I was very familiar with young KJ and thought that I STILL BELIEVE would provide the opportunity for my daughter and I to enjoy a night out together, if nothing else. Boy, was I in for a surprise!
As luck would have it I was given the chance to attend a pre-screening of I STILL BELIEVE, from our friends at Graf-Martin Communications. I had watched the trailers at that point and heard some of the buzz around it, but I was still not sure what to expect. As a rule I approach movies purely from the standpoint of “I want to be entertained” for a couple of hours and ask nothing more from them. But the closer we got to the date of the screening, the more I found myself eager to know just what made this film so special it was being hailed by Seventeen Magazine as “the most romantic movie of 2020!” This true story had yet to be released and it was already making history as the first faith film to be ranked #1 by a secular teen magazine. This I had to see!
The film’s official description tells us that “One love can change your life. One life can change the world. From the creators of I CAN ONLY IMAGINE comes an inspiring love story for the ages. Rediscover the wonder of love in I STILL BELIEVE, based on the real-life story of chart-topping singer Jeremy Camp. The new movie from directors Jon and Andrew Erwin and producer Kevin Downes stars KJ Apa, Britt Robertson, Shania Twain and Gary Sinise. A hopeful reminder that faith tested is faith worth sharing.”

I STILL BELIEVE has all the things we have come to expect from a well made film like great actors and the ability to make us laugh and cry. Jeremy Camp (KJ Apa) heads off to college with his parents’ blessings, a new guitar in hand and the courage to go after his dream. Meeting new friends and finding love make life sweeter. What was unexpected for me was just how lovely this film really is, despite dealing with hardships. In fact, it is those very challenges that showed me what “faith tested is faith worth sharing” truly means.
I STILL BELIEVE tugged at my heart strings until they could give no more and I want to see it again. On the drive home this beautiful movie had my teenager and I talking for hours. Yes, hours! It will spark wonderful conversations you don’t want to miss out on.♥
So, mark those calendars my friends because I STILL BELIEVE opens across Canada this Friday, March 13th, 2020.
