Recently, MapleMouseMama contributor Lindsey Reeder, took in a screening of Alice Through The Looking Glass and she fell hard for it. Read what she has to say below…

Alice Through the Looking Glass was amazing. I feel like it’s important to start with that sentence, because I’m notorious for scrolling to the bottom of movie reviews for the last paragraph that either sums it up in 1-2 sentences or gives it a rating either using stars or grades. Here’s why it’s amazing.
Johnny Depp. Okay, that’s not the only reason, but it kind of is. For years, I’ve had the book Alice Through the Looking Glass sitting on my shelves and so I didn’t know that the whole story is focused around the Mad Hatter. Hatter’s one of my favourite characters from the film and of course Depp delivers in a big way with character, laughter and the perfect amount of kooky. After a massive voyage at sea, Alice returns home to a party where she sees an odd looking mirror and being the ever so curious Alice that she is, she peeks in to discover her old friends the White Queen, the White Rabbit, the Cheshire Cat and of course, Tweedledee and Tweedledum. They share with her that it’s up to her to fix the Hatter’s sadness. After learning that his sadness comes from the fact that his family is alive and missing (no one believes him), Alice decides to go back into time to put the pieces together to find out what happened to them.
This sends her on a voyage beyond the colourful world of Wonderland and into time meeting a young Hatter, and more importantly showing why the White Queen and evil Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter) don’t get along. Each of their stories can’t be altered or changed, because it will throw off the existing world, so Alice is really on a mystery quest.
Captivated from the moment I sat down, this movie was smart, the cinematography was great and I loved every minute. Don’t listen to those naysayers that harp on about it being silly that they made a second movie, this one is one you and your kids will love.

I have a whole new way of looking at this movie after watching Ever After High with my son. So, although I would have said the rabbit is my favorite before, now I just don’t know. I can’t wait to see this movie. I think it will be visually amazing. I will have to sneak off one night to see it when my son is at a play date!

Johnny Depp is a good actor and any movie he’s in should be good. I’d love to see this, perhaps when it comes out on DVD. The
Mad Hatter is one of my favourites. 🙂

Johnny Depp??? Think I’ll pass on that guy. He peaked in Pirates and his latest personal escapades involving dogs in Australia and wives or lack thereof detract from his personal magnetism.

To each his own, right? He is still a cutie patootie, LOL.
