First Book Canada Gets a Little Help From VarageSale

July 28, 2015 By: MapleMouseMama14 Comments

As a passionate reader and a lover of literature it warms my heart to know that VarageSale, the fantastic and free online marketplace, is helping raise funds for First Book Canada. This worthwhile endeavor has a very noble cause; to get thousands of new books into the hands of some very deserving children. The founder of VarageSale, mompreneur Tami, is not only the brainchild behind this popular and successful buy and sell platform; she is also an elementary school teacher. It’s no wonder First Book Canada was the ideal program for VarageSale to help support.

VarageSale is quickly becoming one of the most popular ways to clean out your closets and make a little money while you’re at it. The concept is easy: just join a community, take a photo of the item(s) you want to sell and share them with like-minded members.  With over a million members worldwide the sense of community naturally grows as you get to know your fellow VarageSalers. You can even expand your own personal neighborhood by joining more than one community.

VarageSale has taken the success of this ever-growing online community and is using it to help grow the number of deserving children First Book Canada helps, one book at a time.  This summer, starting on July 22nd the challenge is on for the 60 local VarageSale communities that exist in Ontario.  For every 1,500 new members that join a community, VarageSale will donate a whopping $2,500 to local schools through First Book Canada! That is a massive 600 books in each city, or a staggering 30,000 books across Ontario. How amazing is that!?!

First Book Canada is part of a larger effort to help decrease the level of illiteracy in today’s children.  With social media outlets available in every school and auto-correct taking the guess work out of the traditional spelling bee, more and more youngsters are not learning to read properly. Part of that also comes from a lack of access to quality books and educational resources. With the help of VarageSale and it’s Ontario based members, many more children will have access to some wonderful books. It’s a win-win for everyone: as a member of VarageSale you get to make money on your unwanted items all while helping to bring the love of reading to kids everywhere.

I know you want to help VarageSale raise money for First Book Canada and here is how you can do it: head to the VarageSale.com website, find your local community, sign up and remember, it’s completely free!. There is an easy to use app for both iPhone and Android you can download for on the go access to your VarageSale profile. You can even visit them on Facebook or Twitter. Tell your family and friends and encourage them to join VarageSale. More members mean First Book Canada will have more books to spread around. 🙂

Do you enjoy reading? What is a favourite book from your youth? Mine would have to be the entire Anne of Green Gables series. ♥
