Happy “Canada Doodles” Day!! #FreePrintables

June 24, 2014 By: MapleMouseMama46 Comments

Canada-Doodles-CovernnnnnDrawing and doodling is an activity that my kiddos enjoy.  It stimulates their imaginations and allows them to let their creative side show.  Just in time for Canada Day (July 1st) we were given the opportunity to check out Canada Doodles, this sweet activity book from Raincoast Books! Canada Doodles, by Megan Radford and Peter Cook, packs a lot of entertainment into a pocket size publication.

The first thing you will notice (and giggle over if you are Canadian) is the smattering of Canadian icons on the cover, front and back.  Who doesn’t love the majestic moose, sweet maple syrup or terrific totems that represent Canada loud and clear?!  The inside of Canada Doodles keeps the fun going with page after page of funny and inventive doodles to keep you busy on a road trip, during your lunch hour or when you have a few minutes to spare.  The size of the book means you can take it anywhere!

I was hard pressed to pick just a couple of my favorite doodles, as you will too, so I am going to share more then a couple.  Right off the bat Canada Doodles asks you to decorate your very own Tim Horton’s donut. I loved that!  My daughter loved the page asking us to create books showcasing our favourite Canadian books and authors.  There is a page, actually many pages for hockey lovers and one to help you keep the lyrics of our nation anthem, “O Canada” fresh in your mind. There is a doodle dedicated to our crazy Canuck coins and another where you can draw yourself meeting the Queen!

William had fun dressing a snowman!

Canada Doodles leaves nothing out.  There are doodles that pay homage to the variety of cultural differences you find in this great country as well as doodles that honour our beautiful wildlife, like the free flying Canada Geese and the busy beaver.  There are “just for the fun of it” doodles like designing costumes for Cirque du Soleil performers, creating your own masterpiece for the Art Gallery of Ontario or building your own igloo in The Land of the Midnight Sun!

Canada Doodles has a suggested age of 8 and up, but my five year old loved it! Personally I think any age would get a kick out of it.  You can see what I mean by checking out these free printables taken right from the book itself!  Just click on the link to download the pdf and print away!  I guarantee you will be making more then one copy.

Be sure to check out the following sites where you can purchase your own copy of Canada Doodles.  They include kidsbooks.ca and indigo.ca.  Make sure to follow our esteemed author, Megan Radford on twitter “@meganradford“ and Raincoast Books “@RaincoastBooks.”

Which printable are you going to try first? Have fun doodling!

Did Google also run a Doodles Contest during the special day? This is awesome as it makes you appreciate and remember a lot of things specific to your home country!
