When my first born arrived in this world the last thing on my mind was worrying about illness. I just wanted to make it through those first few days and get her home, safe and sound. But that wasn’t meant to be. Nothing about my daughter’s birth went according to the birth plan we had in place. There was the false labour which resulted in a midnight rush to the hospital – during a snowstorm at around the 8 month mark. Then there was the ultrasound due to elevated blood pressure at the 38 week mark that resulted in an unplanned for Cesarean Section – also during a snowstorm. Even when we finally came home from the hospital there was – wait for it – a snowstorm. I was more worried with the weather than about my baby getting sick.
But that is exactly what happened. Being born in the winter it was bound to become an issue sooner rather than later. We were already dealing with a feeding issue. It was determined that my daughter had been born with a tongue-tie; a situation where the tongue is literally attached to the bottom of her mouth. It meant that while in-utero she had not learned how to suck and therefore could not breastfeed. So, our sweet baby girl wasn’t getting the nourishment she needed and she was sick. It really tested the strength my husband and I have come to rely on as our children grow.
As we soon learned, parents often use various tricks to soothe their child while they are ill. With babies a great way to calm them is to nurse or give them a bottle. But when they have nasal congestion, where mucus builds up and blocks their little nose, nursing can be tough. And a sick and hungry baby makes everyone unhappy. Thankfully, the nursing consultant who discovered Emily’s tongue-tie also had some great advice to help with her cold.
hydraSense® Baby Nasal Care
The first thing she told us was not to underestimate how often we would need to use a Nasal Aspirator. That funky-looking tool with a rubber balloon shape on one end and a hard, plastic cone on the other is one of the tools in your baby nasal cold symptom-fighting arsenal.
The hydraSense® Nasal Aspirator is a gentle way to relieve baby’s nasal congestion quickly and effectively. The Starter Kit comes with a carrying case, specifically designed filters and 5 EasyDose vials of saline solution. It helps reduce and relieve your baby’s nasal congestion and can be used 4 to 6 times per day to help unblock baby’s nose.
Toddlers usually can’t blow their own nose effectively, so the Aspirator got lots of use in our house, even when we didn’t have babies anymore. My son still has challenges with that at 8 years of age and when you have dried up mucus making it difficult to breathe, children often try to get the gunk out by themselves. Thankfully my daughter is not prone to colds, but my son is. Trying to teach him how to clean his nose the proper way was a challenge, but hydraSense® Ultra-Gentle Mist made it much easier and still does. The relief my son gets now and my daughter would get as a baby, was a huge relief for mom and dad.
Add in the fact that hydraSense is 100% natural sourced seawater and free of any medications or preservatives and you know hydraSense® Baby Nasal Care is worth looking into for all parents. With cold season upon us you can bet we have stocked up already.
What are your go-to tips to keeping your child’s nose clear in the winter?
