Even though I am never quite sure how it happens, every week we seem to bring more items into our home then we take out. I hesitate to call us hoarders, because I know it is a serious issue for some, but there are days when I seriously can’t think straight for the mess in the family room or one of the kid’s rooms. That mess I mentioned is typically made up of things we have decided we no longer need, use or fit into, so why then does it remain in the very place it is not wanted? The answer may sometimes be laziness, but often it is because we are not sure what to do with these things that still have a lot of life left in them. That’s when it is time to do something worthwhile and #Donate4Good.
GLAD Canada is trying to make it a little easier for those in Toronto and the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) to #Donate4Good by teaming up with Goodwill to increase donations. To help encourage our communities to give back by donating their gently used goods, GLAD will be donating $10,000 plus 10,000 black plastic bags to help you pack up those in demand items. How fabulous is that?
How Can You Get GLAD Bags and #Donate4Good?
It’s easy! Check out the schedule below. GLAD will be set up at 5 Loblaws locations throughout Toronto, to accept your donations and provide you with the bags. Some neighborhoods will also have door-to-door bag deliveries to help them get started.

Did you know that our donations of used items help support Goodwill’s ability to provide work opportunities and skills training for people facing barriers to employment? Goodwill generates funds through their retail locations and other lines of business which in turn provides employment to over 600 people in 15 Community Stores and 11 Attended Donations Centres across many parts of Ontario!
These two facts astounded me and really opened my eyes to the value of donating to Goodwill:
1 bag of donated goods = 1 hour of career counselling
&
2 boxes of donated books = 2 hours of on-the-job training
Another very important fact to think about when you are digging through your closets this weekend or cleaning out the toy bin is that last year Goodwill, with your help, diverted over 38 million pounds of goods from being sent to landfills. Not only is the #Donate4Good program helping people today, but it is also helping keep our planet clean for tomorrow and beyond.
Visit Goodwill to learn more about their programs and locations and while you’re at it check out GLAD Canada and their wonderful line up of Odourguard and Febreze Freshness products. These will not only help you to #Donate4Good, but keep things smelling great at the same time. 🙂
How many bags do you think you can accumulate to #Donate4Good?

I definitely have a lot if stuff that I need to sort through and donate. I usually give my donations to a local store that provides vouchers for free clothing to those who really need it.

I did my closet last month and today I’m tackling my husband and my son’s. Sometimes a move is a good thing (it makes us purge and donate).

I just recently donated a bunch of items my children grew out of. I try to go through our things every few months

Great idea! I can always use motivation to get rid of things! (I’m always trying, but it seems no matter how much I donate, I still have more than I need.. my basement has some kind of stuff-multiplying power!

I donate several times a year. Usually at the change of seasons. My kids go through clothing so fast. This is a great program! I love how Glad has stepped in! At least you know you won’t have a broken bag on the way to Goodwill

I’m afraid that now-a-days I wear my clothes until they are only fit for the garbage. Even with the kid’s clothes there was never much to donate as they were passed down the line through 7 kids, if they even lasted that long, they were done too. My son (an adult) does have a few things to donate though so we’ll be dropping them off soon and I have a ton of books to donate. 🙂

I usually have a bag that I collect reusable things and then donate it when it is full.
