Food allergies are a growing public concern and something near to my heart because my five year old son has them. William is currently allergic to peanuts and tree nuts, but thankfully outgrew his allergies to dairy and eggs. When William started school this past fall I made it my mission to bring food allergy awareness to my children’s school. One way I have done this is to get renowned children’s entertainer Kyle Dine to visit our school! I am proud and excited to share that the time for his visit is almost here!!
Kyle’s show, “Let’s Go Nuts!” is a lively musical presentation that will help educate all of our students and teachers about allergies and anaphylaxis. As a food allergy educator and musician Kyle preforms at schools to help students understand what severe food allergies are and what they can do to help allergic classmates stay safe. He performs fun and interactive songs about food allergies in a kid friendly way. My kids and I already have favorites of Kyle’s songs with “Benji the Chipmunk” and “Food Allergies Rock” being our top picks.
In his shows Kyle covers a ton of information like the most common food allergens, symptoms of a reaction and what a reaction can look like. He tells the children what an EpiPen, or auto-injector, is and what to do in an emergency. He also reminds us how important hand washing is and that we should never share food at school. These messages are all set to the catchy tunes from his two CDs “You Must Be Nuts” and “Food Allergies Rock.” Kyle’s goal, and one we share, is to help maintain an allergy aware and allergy safe school community.
As a huge advocate of food allergy awareness and in honor of Food Allergy Awareness Month, I urge you to check out Kyle Dine’s website to see what he is all about. Kyle will be touring schools throughout the coming school year and is a wonderful addition to any school’s curriculum. You do not have to have food allergic children to get involved in food allergy awareness. Just a desire to help.

Nice write up Suzanne. When does he come to your school? Enjoy the day, William and Emily too.
Thanks Mom, the show was today and it was wonderful!
This sounds awesome! I hope he comes by my son’s school when he’s of that age. He has peanut & tree nut allergies too and I’m already terrified of sending him off to school alone.
Sending my son to JK was super hard to Cheryl, but I am glad we stuck with it. William loves school. As for Kyle you would be best to contact your school to get them on board for having him perform. Once i had the approval of our school I made all the arrangements and it was easy enough. If you need some help just let me know!
What a great idea! This will help kids with allergies feel accepted and help in case there is an emergency.
Exactly Nicole, teaching awareness is so important.
Looks like a great way to address food allergies with kids in an easy to understand way
It was a great show Kate, the kids were so receptive..
What a great idea to make food allergies a better part of the conversation and get the ideas across to kids and adults.
It was a wonderful show Kerrie!
I didn’t know something like this existed. What a great idea to spread the word in a way kids will listen.
The show was wonderful, a huge success!
I’m really liking how recently I have seen a lot more attention to brought to food allergies and Epi Pens. It’s great to see that they’re taking the intimidation away from it.
We have come a long way Randa, and I agree it is a really great thing..
I’m going to check out his website! I wonder if he is planning to do a tour of schools in the Toronto area?
Jenna,, his next tour is for the fall, in the new school year and he will be in Ontario. You would need to speak to your own school to make arrangements to have him come there, but it would be nice for the Ontario government to fund a local tour someday..
What a great idea, this show puts the importance of food allergies fore front
It really does Darlene and the kids loved it!
Thanks for the review, that is really a great idea!
I totally agree!
What a great idea!
