Every year we celebrate Food Allergy Awareness Month in May (for Canada). I will admit that I did not know this prior to our son’s diagnosis six years ago, but I am so glad I do now. This is a very important time to help increase awareness of food allergies in our local communities all across the country. Anaphylaxis Canada is committed to informing and educating Canadians with some key initiatives and community events planned for this month. There is so much you can do to get involved.
Anaphylaxis Canada has complied the following information to help you get started in planning how you will help make a difference in the war against Food Allergies. Here are some highlights on how to celebrate this May:
Education Opportunities
• Let others know about the free Allergy Information Service – to stay informed on allergy – related issues
In the Community
• Donate to help support our educational and advocacy initiatives
Whatever you decide to do to help support Food Allergy Awareness Month, have fun with it and know that food allergy sufferers everywhere (and their families) appreciate it. Thank you. 🙂

Thank you for sharing the information. This is the first time that I’ve heard of Food Allergy Awareness and my girl was allergic to cow’s milk during her infancy years. I can relate to why such an initiative is created for awareness!

I had no idea about this day’s existence. Thanks for sharing such an informative post.

This is good way to reach out people for food allergy awareness. Here in our place, it needs to push more ideas to start a cause like this. Nice and helpful cause for all!

I don’t think we have that here and we should. This is a great way to educate people about the different kinds of food allergy, how it can be avoided and the cure.
Gil Camporazo says
In the Philippines, I never heard about a national celebration of a particular month to be observed as food allergy awareness. What we celebrate is the month of July as the Nutrition Month. In fact, Filipino seems to be not allergy to any food, or food preparation for that matter.

First time I’ve heard of Food allergy awareness month. Well, my family is fortunate to not have any food allergies, maybe it’s the healthy lifestyle we live. I know some of my relatives have it, but I can’t say they’re into health as much as we are. We should really watch what we eat, know what we’re eating. Prevention is better than cure. 🙂

This is a great public awareness campaign that will not only keep people informed but I think it will also help avoid bigger problems caused by food allergies. It’s sad that we’re not big on these kinds of things here in my country.
Fred says
I have never heard of this observance before. Is this only for Canada? It is very important to be aware of our food allergies if ever we have one.

I’m just thankful I don’t have food allergy. I had before, but I don’t know what happened, now it’s gone. I guess it’s my system being immune.

My child has food allergies since she was 6 months old. It all started from egg, then fish and some seafoods. Even hotdogs, and other processed foods are not to be eaten by my child. However her pedia says, we try to eat little amount of those food/s then take antihistamines so her body will be immune to these type of foods

Wish there is a similar campaign in our country. I am one of those people who keeps bearing with food allergies.

How I wish we also have something like this in the Philippines. I myself have food intolerances, and I know a good number of people who have food allergies too. It would be really nice to build more awareness on this. I have a friend who was rushed to the hospital because of a food allergy she didn’t even know she have. >.<

Wow. This is something interesting! May is Mother’s Day to me rather than food allergy awareness! Is there a specific site for that? I never knew it!

Food allergy can be a really serious problem if not well taken care of. An awareness month is such a good idea to get more organisations and individuals engaged. Thanks for sharing.

I think we should really be aware with the food we eat as we have different body chemistry. It’s good that there is food allergy awareness month to help us.

The activities lined up for the month are really relevant! I hope more people attend the talks so they will be able to learn more about allergies, because it is a serious health issue.

I didn’t know there even was a food allergy awareness month. That’s a good initiative, especially for new parents who might be unaware that their children could be allergic to certain food products.

Thank you for all the great information.

Luckily none of my children had food allergies for which I am extremely grateful. It must be really frightening having a child (or even an adult) who is so dreadfully allergic, my heart goes out to them. Great info here, thanks for sharing 🙂
