I have always loved to read. Books, magazines, even textbooks for school. One of my weekly guilty pleasures used to be to purchase People magazine and read it cover to cover. Every week. At five dollars a pop the cost added up, but I would justify it by saying it’s the only magazine I read. Then, we bought a home and Martha Stewart Living made an appearance every once in awhile. Then came Better Homes and Gardens, House and Home and even Good Housekeeping ( my hubby still laughs at that one). 🙂 And who could forget binging on Brides and Martha Steward Weddings…sigh. ♥ I think I still have that one somewhere. Once my first child was born I ordered my first subscription to Today’s Parent. After the second child it was to Weight Watchers. 🙂
You don’t have to be good at math to guess that the cost of all these magazines would add up pretty quickly. Truth be told once I became a parent I did not even have the time to read them all and they were often recycled or given to my Mom having only read an article or two. So, I quit. Cold turkey. No more magazines for me. Once in awhile I would sneak in a People, especially if there was coverage of the Royal Family in it, but I did fairly well. Yet I missed having my favorites to read. Missed the fun stories, the great recipes, the beautiful decorating ideas and the tips from parents who had already faced the challenge of raising a child. So you can imagine my delight when I first heard about Next Issue Canada!
Next Issue Canada is a dream online source for magazine lovers of all kinds and it is so easy to use! After a quick set-up to your device of choice ( I use my iPad Mini) the only hard decision becomes which, of the over 100 magazines, will you select to be your favorites. Then you have your choice of great reads at your finger tips, whenever and wherever you want. Next Issue Canada can be used on a variety of gadgets including Apple iPad and iPhone, Android smartphones and tablets, and Windows 8 PCs and tablets. I love that you can download the issues you want when you are online and save them for reading later. This came in handy recently when we traveled by plane for vacation. My iPad Mini was coming with me anyway so having several back issues of People downloaded beforehand kept my mind on celebrity gossip and not on the fact that I don’t like to fly. True story. 🙂
Aside from the amazing array of titles to choose from when you download Next Issue Canada, the best part is the price. Remember I told you I paid five bucks for one magazine? One that I bought each week, all year long (not to mentioned all the others)? The Next Issue Canada app would have saved me over fifty percent if I had used it instead. They offer two great plans to choose from, starting at $9.99 per month.

A great idea for people who commute to work – something to read at the touch of your finger tips without having to lug around heavy papers on the bus or train.
MapleMouseMama says
Great idea Kate! I recall my aunt commuting on the train every day and she would have to wear gloves to keep her hands from getting black from the newsprint!

we have a similar app available in Singapore and I’m using it to read my monthly magazine subscription on an ipad. I got a yearly subscription but gave up on reading it after a few mths. loading takes forever (page by page) and reading magazines on ipad just doesn’t feel the same as reading a true magazine. 🙁
lovemindanao says
wow this online magazine would be the death of the printed magazine if become successful enough.. I still love turning the pages of the glossy magazine than doing it online though… but if you are in travel.. this would really come very handy .. so it depends on your lifestyle to which you would put your money on…
Anne V says

What a great concept! Like you, I used to buy lots of magazines, when I actually had the time to read them – present day… I am not entirely sure when the last time I bought a magazine for myself was! x
Fred says
The savings for a service like this are significant! Later on, I really see print magazines becoming dinosaurs in favor of digital copies. Newsweek started the ball rolling down already.

Good for you to find a discount program that gives you the best magazine prices. I bet a lot of Canadians would love to hear about this deal.
Summer says
I haven’t found a magazine that I’ve read back to back and was entertained. I would try to find the right magazine for me though, and I hope that there is. True enough buying magazines are like spending money better with books. One of the things I like with magazines is cutting some of its pictures, though I sometimes regret doing that in reading materials.
Raquel says
Oh my goodness! I have always loved reading magazines, but like you, I had to quit because of the cost. This will be something I’ll definitely look at.
Crazed parent says
