As a young lady in my early twenties the May long weekend was something I looked forward to all winter long. This three day weekend was the official unofficial start of summer and that meant heading to my family’s trailer up North. Even if it was freezing still, which it sure can be here in Canada, we would have a fire, walk the beach road and catch up with friends we had not seen all winter long. I have special memories of these times as this was when I met my hubby, at Silver Pines Resort, on Sparrow Lake, near Gravenhurst. Sigh… ♥
Now that we have grown up and have a family of our own, the trailer park is long gone. The long weekend is typically for doing chores like getting out the lawn and deck furniture and washing it off, taking down the Christmas lights (yes, they are still up), prepping the gardens and assisting my in-laws with the opening up of their cottage. It’s a lot of “all work and no play” which really shouldn’t be the focus of the official unofficial start to summer, right? So this year, I think we all need to shut off the tech, put away the cleaning solution and head outside to enjoy our natural surroundings.
Readers Digest has put together an amazing list of the best hiking in Canada. While many of these trails are better suited to adults, Canada is also home to some fabulous family friendly hiking grounds. The Gold Creek Falls trail in Vancouver, B.C. or the Webster Falls trail in Hamilton, Ont., are both wonderful examples of outdoor trails that you can tackle with your kiddos. Make sure to take a pack with snacks, water bottles, hats, sunscreen and extra socks so that everyone is happy, safe and full of energy for the whole day.
If you are not comfortable with the winding car rides that often occur when escaping the city, I suggest throwing some Gravol™ in your bag. Gravol™ Ginger Liquid Gels are easy to swallow, non-drowsy and will help prevent any motion sickness on long car rides – ensuring you are ready to explore! Don’t let the potential aches and pains that may occur after your hike deter you from even starting out. It is only natural to be a bit sore after hibernating all winter so just give Rub A535™ Extra Strength a try and it will ease those aches and pains in no time. 🙂
The official unofficial start of summer means shorts season is upon us, which can be a bit daunting after bundling up in heavy sweaters and thick pants for six months. Try using Nair™ Wax READY-STRIPS before you put on that first pair of shorts. These ready to use strips are simple and convenient; just place and peel! Most importantly they will leave your legs looking smooth and summer ready!
From ideas on things to do, like taking a hike with your family, to how to keep on looking and feeling great during all the fun, I think we have you covered for this May long weekend. So tell me, what plans do you and your family have to make the most out of the official unofficial start to summer?

It is now May Long, a bit of lightning today but not too bad weather-wise. I’m just staycationing this weekend, hoping to see the Osprey again that has taken two of the goldfish from the little lake at the back of our house. What a wonderful, graceful creature it is.
