One Direction: Interview With @Canada1DProject

August 14, 2014 By: MapleMouseMama37 Comments

one directionAs many of you are aware my daughter and I recently attended our first One Direction concert here in Toronto.  We truly had the time of our lives and I would take her to another one if the opportunity every arose.  One of the things that impressed me the most was the preparation and dedication that many Canadian fans of One Direction put into this concert.  Leading the way was a young lady whose love for One Direction manifested itself in a Twitter campaign to #TurnTorontoRedWhite. A whole subculture of #Directioners supported the idea when the band was in town to play two sold out shows during their #WWATour (Where We Are Tour). I would like to share my interview with this mega One Direction fan…

                                  **********************************
Tell me a little about yourself please? .

Hello, my name is Alexa. I am currently attending a high school in Ontario. I love One Direction and always will. I play the piano and am a very diligent student. I am a straight A student and try to balance my time and efforts with One Direction with my school work and  extra curricular activities.  I live with my brother and parents and they all know lots about 1D. I have many social media accounts which all have postings about 1D including Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and Vine. My twitter is @Canada1DProject .

How long have you been a fan of One Direction Alexa?  Was this your first 1D concert? If not, how many have you been to before?

I heard from a friend about One Direction in late 2011 but only started to know more about them and take interest in early 2012 and still to this day am totally in love with them. This was not my first 1D concert.   I have now attended four concerts.  My first concert was the Up All Night Tour in May 2012, my second concert was in July 2013 for the Take Me Home Tour and then both August dates in Toronto for the Where We Are Tour!

What prompted you to start the Canada 1D Project? Did you know right away what you wanted to do?

The #Canada1DProject was something that had been on my mind for many months before I started it. Sometimes I felt that Canadian fans just didn’t put in the greatest efforts to show 1D how much we love them.  The project came from that thought and also some of my motivation was from the “THIS IS US” movie that was released last year. I did not know right away what EXACTLY I wanted to do for them. I did know that  I wanted it to relate to them and include Canada in some way.

Did you work on the idea yourself or was there a team involved? How long have you been planning the Canada 1D Project?

I started the account of @Canada1DProject on Twitter by myself, but soon enough other accounts were made and everyone was buzzing with ideas! The ideas were a team choice; we got the fans attending the two Toronto concerts involved in choosing and tried to come to an agreement that would work best. Myself and a few other main accounts such as @1DVideoProjects, @_WWATORONTO and @WWA_tdot all worked together on this. My account was set up in December of last year with the idea to do something, but I had been thinking of ideas many months before that.

What exactly did the Canada 1D Project involve, what was the plan?

The #Canada1DProject included  signs, an app (using your smart phone) and colour themed outfits and accessories. On both nights a different sign was to be held up during a particular song, an app which had a red light was to be held up during a particular song and everyone was to wear red and white clothing and accessories.
one directionone directionone direction
How did you prepare yourself for the concert?  Were you pleased with the outcome of the project, the end result?

I spent every day I could starting in the middle of July making signs for the concert.  I made about 230 signs for the 1st night and printed 40. For the second concert I printed around 40 as well. I went to the dollar store and got many red and white things including a boa, mini flags, glow sticks and more. I bought a whole new outfit that was red and white and even made my mom wear red and white. The outcome of the project was not what I would’ve wished for (I had hoped we could get all 50,000 concert goers to participate) but it made an impact from it trending worldwide on Twitter to having some signs being held up throughout the venue. Over all, through the project I made many friends and shared many laughs and created memories and that’s the most important part!

Now that the Toronto concerts are over what is your next step? Is the project done or is there more to come?

Now that the concerts are over I will be making a small video with pictures from fans’ red and white outfits, to pictures of the crowds, 1D on stage, etc. to celebrate! But don’t worry next time they come another project will be put together and it will be bigger and better than this past time!
Check out Alexa’s wonderful video below!

Is there anything about yourself, the project, the concert or One Direction that you would like to add?

I just would like to say thank you to everyone who participated and to keep in contact with my account. I am always willing to chat and will be sure to start on another project as soon as I can! The concert was amazing!  One Direction never, never fail to amaze me.  They are not only great singers but also great people. I hope people realize how wonderful they actually are and stop overlooking them because there is no doubt they are doing what they are doing because they are actually good and it should be no surprise to people. One Direction will always be in my heart.
                                         ****************************************
MapleMouseMama would like to thank Alexa for all of her efforts to make One Direction’s only Canadian stop on the #WWAT a very special one. I can tell you this young lady inspired a lot of people,  myself included, to make the most of this event. Thank you for sharing a bit about yourself and your passion for this band. #DirectionersMama

Well I don’t think the project will help kids to study Tiffany, but this girl already has a good head on her shoulders and is a great student. This project was so she could share her passion..
