During the most wonderful time of the year it is easy to get stressed out over the little things like getting your house decorated, finding every gift on your list before the stores run out and having treats on hand to share with family and friends. While I can not profess to be a Martha Stewart protégé or the best pastry chef on the planet (or in this house, for that matter) I do think I have mad skills when it comes to list making and being prepared for just about anything. With that in mind I thought I would share some tips to help you save your sanity this holiday season!
Decor Deluge
I think I am just like everyone else in that I secretly love the look of a home that has all those fancy, colour coordinated decorations everywhere. It looks elegant, refined and so put together. I wish I had the eye and the patience for it, but I don’t. And I don’t stress about it anymore. Our tree is covered in a hodge podge of ornaments from before we were married 17 years ago. We have sweet ones the kids have made, we have dated ones from milestone events and coveted ones from our honeymoon and children’s first Christmas. I adore our Disney ornaments and trust me, there is not a matching one in the bunch. And, it looks amazing!
My advice is to stop worrying about how everyone else’s decor looks and enjoy what you have, what you have created. Think about the events that led up to what you have today, be it a family keepsake from years ago or a funny item you found at a yard sale.
The Perfect Gift
I am guilty of always wanting that perfect gift for everyone, but who isn’t? We love to make people happy and there is nothing wrong with that. I always say that I am going to start my shopping months ahead of time, but it rarely works out that way. In the end though, it all seems to work out just fine. One thing I do though is always stick with making a list. This list is on my phone so I have easy access to it and can update it whenever I need. During the year when someone mentions a thing they like, I jot it down on my list. I have my list broken up into the names of who we buy for and even other events we may purchase a gift for, like birthdays. I swear this list has saved me many times and it really does help make my shopping experiences run a lot smoother.
Feeding The Masses
One thing I do stress about is not having the right treats for our guests and yes, ourselves. Not being a master baker, I do prize the items that make it out of my kitchen intact (and edible) so I like to present them in a way that is pretty and appealing. That is when I turn to GLAD® to help keep me sane. This year GLAD has introduced us to their Holiday Sanity Savers. This collection of products are not only the best way to store or transport your goodies, they are also whimsical and fun!
Whether you are taking cookies to your dentist’s office or storing the leftovers from your neighborhood potluck, GLAD has you covered with festive Freezer Zipper Bags, Press’n Seal food wrap and two sizes of Food Storage Containers. I love to use the containers when bringing our homemade cookies to family and friends because it adds that touch of holiday charm to our dish. The great thing about these containers is that they can go from the freezer to the microwave and then into the dishwasher. Talk about a sanity saving tip – that’s amazing!
This sounds a little silly, but I love to open up the fridge and see the containers and food wraps with sweet snowmen and festive photos covering my food. It makes me smile every time and the fact that they are all made by GLAD is an even bigger reason to smile. 🙂
