Sleep is one of the most important things we need to help us function properly. However, it can often be elusive, especially for moms. When mothers battle getting a proper night’s sleep it is usually because of the kids, stress, too much on our minds and it can also be because our mattresses and pillows are in need of replacing! I am sure we have all seen those commercials from Sleep Country Canada that talk about how we may need to replace those things if we aren’t sleeping properly. Well, it really is true! The right mattress and pillow can definitely make a difference.
Dormeo Canada created The Octaspring as a hybrid invention. The spring coil meets memory foam, providing dynamic flexibility plus unsurpassed support. It is designed to help you get a much better night’s sleep and can be found only at Sleep Country Canada. There is also another uprising company who is providing very comfortable mattresses in Canada, it’s called Endy. A weird name for a bed brand but, if you are interested in learning more about Endy you can view a complete Endy mattress overview here.
If you are struggling to get your beauty sleep, I suggest you try out some of these tips that I received from Dormeo Canada’s sleep expert, Morgan Baker. These tips will help improve your overall health, beauty and well-being, as well as help you to sleep better!
- Remind yourself about sleep: set an alarm to go to bed and an alarm to wake up in the morning. This can help you get into a healthy sleep routine and improve your circadian rhythm. Keeping a bedtime routine is vital for your overall health and well-being.
- Be cool: in a recent survey by DORMEO Canada, overheating during the night proved to be a leading complaint. Turn down the heat, and keep your bedroom temperature around 18°C for a more comfortable sleep.
- Track your sleep: consider downloading a sleep-tracking app on your Smart Phone. An app that is equipped with “smart alarms” and white noise/calming melodies may help with falling asleep and waking up.
- Regular exercise, but not too close to bedtime: reduce stress and anxiety, and improve self-confidence, quality sleep and brainpower! Finding time for exercise is vital to your overall health and well-being, but try to avoid exercise three hours before bed.
- Jet lag: when traveling, create a new schedule before your trip. If you are traveling east, set incrementally earlier bedtimes and wake-up times to make it easier for the body and mind to adjust. If traveling west, do the opposite.
- Note taking: put a notebook beside your nightstand to write down any worries you think of before bedtime. This can also prevent you from thinking about your ‘to-do’s’ for the next day, or forcing yourself to get up to check/respond to emails.
- Keep it fresh: invest in a new mattress or pillows. Research shows that mattresses deteriorate by up to 75% after 10 or more years. Give this important investment the priority in your budget that it deserves. Talk to sleep experts to learn your mattress needs.
- Smarten up: ensure that you make sleep a priority. According to experts, the average adult requires 7-9 hours of sleep per night in order to feel and perform their best the next day. During sleep, the body consolidates the day’s learning into memory and improves your ability to absorb and remember everyday skills.
- Calm your body, calm your mind: practice meditation or calming activities before bed. Try listening to soothing music, thinking about calming thoughts, reading a book or having a warm bath with Epsom salt. This will help relax and prepare your body for bed time.
- Fuel your body with good food: take the time to make home-cooked, nutritious meals – your body will thank you and allow you to move faster throughout the day. Plan ahead and download food apps on your Smart Phone for quick and healthy meal inspirations.

I received the Queen Size Dormeo Dream Memory Foam Pillow to try out for myself. It provides a cool, comfy place to rest your head, which helps with the “Keep It Fresh” and “Be Cool” tips above! The Dream Memory Foam Pillow is firm and great for side sleepers like myself, providing tons of support where you need it most.
I do have one small draw back though, William loves it too!
When was the last time you changed up your mattress or pillow?

Hubby and I just got new mattresses and some very nice pillows to go with them that have the cooling technology in them. After about 2 weeks of getting used to everything, we are both sleeping better! We always keep our bedroom cool and I just started using my FitBit to track my sleep and it’s making me want to make it a priority. Thanks for the great tips – I’ve never thought about setting an alarm to go to sleep, but that’s a good idea for me!

I have done the note taking thing before. I was laying in bed worrying about my “To Do” list. Just write it down and then let it go until the next day.

Awwww William looks so happy and cozy!!! To be honest – I haven’t done a change of mattresses in a LOOOOONG time, thanks for the reminder. Pillows yes. Mattresses, no. Something I will definitely have to look into now!! This night owl and light sleeper needs a good change!

Our mattress is about 7 years old and it’s starting to show it’s age. I just bought new pillows last fall. Thanks for sharing. I’m going to check this one out.

Wow technology has definitely proven to grow exponentially! Never heard of a pillow like this before .. thanks for the intro into this!

I’ve heard about Dormeo quite a bit lately, and am definitely looking for a new pillow right now, and a new mattress within the next year (just have to start budgeting for one, heh.)
Your Dormeo pillow sounds exactly what I’m looking for! I can’t stand soft pillows (and am a side-sleeper too,) so much so, that I tend to bring my pillow with me when I have to stay at a hotel or else I’ll probably end up with a headache by morning.
Awesome tips! I like the idea of keeping a notepad beside your bed. I used to do that all the time while at university, and miss it now… just keep forgetting to have a notepad and pen handy by the time I’m ready for bed, lol.

These past few years I have struggled with the ability to fall asleep. I like your “notebook” by the bed idea. I am forever jumping out of bed to run to the kitchen to jot down some thought that has jumped into my head.
We definitely need to invest in a new mattress…our is getting close to being 10 years old and it certainly doesn’t lull me to sleep like it used to.
thanks for sharing the tips from the Dormeo Canada’s sleep expert. I will definitely be implementing a few of them!
