Earlier this summer I had an experience unlike any other: Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament! Thanks to CAA Rewards we were treated to an afternoon of fun, food and fighting! Well, more like dueling, on horseback, with knights. See where I am going with this? Men on horseback, dressed as valiant heroes, all while feasting on a four course banquet. Now we are talking!!!
Medieval Times takes a step back in time to the 11th century where guests of the castle are welcomed by the King and his daughter, the Princess. From entry via the great hall, to our ringside seats, no detail is overlooked. I loved that many of the young guests were dressed up in costumes befitting a time long ago. My daughter and our friends were not quite into dressing up, but the two girls, Emily and Mackenzie, jumped at the chance to participate in Knight’s Training! Until November 16th children can sign up for Knight’s Training where they will watch a weapons demonstration by the weapon’s master! Emily and Mackenzie were able to practice certain moves and learn about the intense training it takes to become a knight!
Once training was over we took our seats for the dinner and tournament. My guests and I were seated in the red section, very close to the King’s throne. Once the Knights were introduced the place went nuts with all of the guests trying to out-cheer one another for their respective knight! The energy was great, the show was non-stop.
For two hours we enjoyed dining on yummy garlic bread ( I scored an extra piece ’cause I was hungry!), tomato bisque soup which was really good ( you can trust me on this one folks. I am not a lover of tomatoes, but I loved this soup!), baby dragon ( also known as roasted chicken), spare rib, herb baked potatoes and pastry. The best part was we ate everything with our hands! After all everything at Medieval Times is authentic to the 11th century and they did not have utensils back then..
The tournament itself was pretty amazing to watch. We were able to cheer on the red knight as he displayed his talents at jousting, swordplay, hand to hand combat and horsemanship. We were entertained by dancing horses and the skills of the castle falconer. The show moves along with no interruptions, but the story, set in Medieval Spain, never lags. The costumes of vibrant reds, yellows, blues and more are very detailed and there are plenty of opportunities for photos.
From start to finish I was truly impressed with Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament. We were served by the friendliest wench I have ever met and even given early entrance to accommodate the cane I was using. The castle is full of artifacts and there is the usual plethora of souvenirs to be had. Emily even got to spend time in the medieval torture museum! Our afternoon at Medieval Times was fabulous and I would return in a heartbeat.
Did you know that as a CAA member you can not only save on the purchase of tickets to Medieval Times, you can also earn CAA Dollars, which can be used for many things, including your membership?!
So tell me, would you eat baby dragon?

OMG, that seems to be such a great experience, I have always wanted to live in Medieval Times and be courted by some valiant knight. This tournament was so authentic, judging by your awesome photos, people were eating with bare hands.. I would love to see the swordplay and chivalry combat live! Lucky you!

Yes I would eat a “baby dragon”, it’s one of the favorite meats in our household
And willing to eat it medieval-style too with bare hands as we grew up in the Philippines eating like this instead of utensils.
I hope you can find one near you Karen. I know they are located all across North America!

As a Game of Thrones addict, this will surely be in my itinerary when I visit your country. My sons will want to join that knights training as well.
