Please welcome a new guest blogger to MapleMouseMama! Todd, one of the fine folks from Sweepstakes Fanatics is serving up a tasty treat and sharing with us the top 5 Ice Cream Shops in Walt Disney World!! Grab a spoon and dig in!
Let’s face it. Walt Disney World is in Florida, and Florida is hot. What’s the greatest thing about hot weather? It gives us an excuse to eat ice cream, of course! While almost every counter service shop and restaurant at the park sells ice cream, the really good stuff is found in specialty shops. The following are the top 5 ice cream shops at Walt Disney World.
Ghiradelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop – Downtown Disney
Ghiradelli is famous for its chocolate, but they take their ice cream just as seriously. Whether you pop by Ghiradelli before lunch or after dinner, you can be certain that your ice cream dessert will be a delicacy. You can order traditional cones, sugar cones, or waffle cones hand-dipped in chocolate. But that’s only the beginning. When those cones are filled with your favorite ice cream, you can choose from milk chocolate or double chocolate hot fudge melted over the top. There’s more of course, from massive banana splits and sinfully large sundaes (hot brownie sundae, anyone?) to made-to-order ice cream dishes. Our favorite? The “Haight AshBerry”: strawberry cheesecake ice cream topped with vanilla cream, strawberry and blueberry topping, and whipped cream.
Seashore Sweets – Boardwalk
Seashore Sweets is a throwback to the days of the old fashioned ice cream parlor and sweet shop. This is the ideal place to snag a cold milkshake, some saltwater taffy, and ice cream. Seashore Sweets has standard soft-serve ice cream, and although it’s excellent, there aren’t many flavors available. The real treat of Seashore Sweets is the hand-served ice cream. While all of the flavors are delicious, the mint chocolate chip and the butter pecan really stand out. There are more traditional flavors like chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, as well as a flavor of the day. Don’t forget to try their fudge, too.
Beaches & Cream – Epcot
There’s nothing quite like the Beaches & Cream Soda Shop in the Beach Club Resort. You can listen to oldies on a classic juke box and order up your favorite malt or sundae. When it comes to ice cream, Beaches & Cream has some of the best in all of Disney World. Try the No Way Jose sundae: a mix of chocolate and vanilla ice cream with peanut butter morsels and chocolate chunks, and topped with a generous serving of whipped cream. The Fudge Mud Slide is equally amazing, with three scoops of vanilla ice cream, Oreo cookies, hot fudge, and whipped cream piled on top of a hot brownie. Beaches & Cream also serves up a mean root beer float and delectable banana splits. The true ice cream aficionados will want to go for The Kitchen Sink, easily most famous fare on the menu: eight scoops of ice cream – 2 scoops of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry and 1 scoop of coffee and mint chip – layered with every single topping available, covered with a whole can of whipped cream, and served in no other than a kitchen sink-shaped bowl. Don’t try to conquer this one alone. The Kitchen Sink serves 4 to 6 people.
The Plaza Ice Cream Parlor – Main Street / Magic Kingdom
The Plaza Ice Cream Parlor is another old-fashioned ice cream shop. It features floats, waffle bowl sundaes, hand-dipped cones, and traditional ice cream. For the best item on the menu, order the Plaza Sundae; it’s vanilla bean ice cream smothered in cherries, hot fudge, and whipped cream. The best part about The Magic Kingdom Ice Cream Parlor (other than the ice cream) is its location. Right on the end of Main Street, this is the perfect place to stop on your way out of the park or before you hit up the fireworks. Just remember that lines can be a little lengthy at the end of the day, but it’s worth the wait.
The Fountain – Swan and Dolphin Resort
The full menu of delicious food makes The Fountain at the Swan and Dolphin Resort worth a visit, but the desserts here are the best. Their milkshake selection alone is astounding. When it comes to ice cream, The Fountain doesn’t disappoint. You have the option of choosing scoops from the ice cream case (over 15 flavors!) or ordering one of the heavenly ice cream desserts. The caramel apple sundae is sure to be the favorite of any ice cream lover: it’s a piece of apple pie topped with vanilla ice cream, caramel, and whipped cream. Another contender is the Blastin’ Brownie sundae, a fudge brownie covered with soft-serve vanilla, whipped cream, walnuts, and hot fudge topping. Or, get creative and go for the create-your-own sundae option. Either way, it’s win-win in the ice cream department at The Fountain.
If you aren’t near one of Disney World’s top 5 ice cream shops, don’t worry. The next best thing – the Mickey Premium Bar – is sold almost everywhere in the park.

This is a great post! We are huge fans of Beaches and Cream and we introduced our friends to the Kitchen Sink when we were there last year. We’ve also enjoyed ice creams from The Plaza Ice Cream Parlour, but we’ve never made it to Ghiradellis. I’ve not heard of the others but I’m really hoping to visit the Boardwalk on this year’s trip, so I’ll definitely add Seashore Sweets to our holiday ‘must-dos’ xx
MapleMouseMama says
Ghiradellis’ is the best Sam! We discovered their shakes and oh man, are they ever good!

The Mickey Premium bar looks like a Magnum but shaped as Mickey! Hehe. I love ice cream and when you’re in parks such as Disney, you wouldn’t really take heavy meals so you go for snacks and of course, sweets such as ice cream. 🙂
