I can recall when, a few years ago it was all the rage to get a smartphone. I had the typical flip phone, did not do any sort of texting and I certainly never thought about having a data plan. Even when my hubby suggested the new iPhone as a gift I said “no, thank you.” The thought of having to learn to use this contraption was too much and a waste of my time. Or so I thought. Fast forward a few years and I could not imagine life without a smartphone. Could you?
I do still have one giant pet peeve when it comes to this fabulous tech we have come to love and that is the cost. It is outrageous! I did a little checking and do you know that if you want to purchase a new iPhone 6 it will cost you between $800 to $1,000?! Seriously, that is crazy! Yes, you can lower the cost with a monthly package, but with that comes a contract. If you figure out the cost during the life of the contract you are still paying hundreds more than you should. Luckily Canadians now have a new option that makes owning a smartphone affordable and we got to check one out! Meet the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3!!
This budget friendly smartphone has features galore that will please everyone on your gift giving list. The Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 makes it an affordable option to get your teen a new smartphone for that special gift. I can’t tell you how many of my daughter’s friends have a smartphone at the top of their wish lists this year. Parents, you can feel good about this purchase, trust me.
As an iPhone user I was a little hesitant to even try out the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 as I have never used an Android before, but I shouldn’t have worried. The Idol 3 has that familiar design and feel to it, with the touch screen access I love. The screen comes in two sizes, 4.7″ and 5.5″. My aging eyes prefer the larger screen so that is what I went with. The large HD screen is bright and clear with a resolution up to 1080 pixels. I am not the best with this technical stuff, but I know what I like when I see it. Add in the fully reversible interface, meaning you can view it from almost any angle (and take a call) and right from the first glance you will love the Idol 3. 🙂
My hubby was impressed (okay, so was I) that the Idol 3’s energy-efficient performance is courtesy of it’s processor, the 64-bit, 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615. It is teamed up with the Adreno 405 graphical processor to ensure crisp video playback and a smooth, fluid graphics performance. Add in the long battery life and you are good to go. This makes the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 a great choice for a student on the go or a even a soccer mom on the run.
And who doesn’t want a smartphone that takes a great selfie? The Idol 3 comes with a 13MP main camera and a wide-angle 8MP front camera with features that include HDR, time-lapse, panoramic and manual mode. I found the camera easy to use and love that it has the fast Face Focus feature, which means it zeros in on every face in your photo in less than half a second! Now everyone will look good!
I can tell you with complete honesty that I do not have music on my current phone. Don’t get me wrong, I love listening to music, but it never seemed worthwhile to have it on my phone. The sound isn’t the best, I would have to flip through several screens to locate it. It just was not worth it to me. But now that the new Justin Bieber CD is out I thought I would test out the audio features of the Idol 3. My favourite feature is simply that it is a smart phone! I currently use an old flip phone, and would love to upgrade! I love too that you can get a bigger screen – I would go for that for sure! And how cool that I could have a phone with a camera – mine currently has nothing!!
