Winter is a great season for trying out the best in board games there is. There are tons of options to be had and for all ages too. My family and I have a nice stockpile for when the wind is howling, the lights are flickering and the hot chocolate is still hot. 🙂 But that doesn’t mean we don’t need or want anymore! With so many great new titles (and a few familiars,) I am sure your family would love to check out the best in board games there is.
The Best in Board Games For All!
Best in Kid’s Board Games
My First Carcassonne: The streets of Carcassonne are filled with kids; the city has never been so alive! This version of the modern classic, Carcassonne, has been adapted to allow players of all ages to play together. Each turn, players place a tile to build the city. When they close a street with one or more kids of their colour, they get to put their pawn on the board. The first to place all their pawns wins!($44.99, 2-4 Players, Ages: 4+)Â

Ramen Fury Card Game: The use-your-noodle card game! Rush to prepare and slurp up delicious bowls of ramen filled with tasty ingredients. Collect combos of cards to score for different recipes while adding garnishes to boost your points. At the same time, watch out as other players throw spicy chili peppers your way or swipe foods right from your bowls! It’s “take that” fun that will have you calling for takeout! ($12.99, 2-5 Players, Ages: 8+)
Splendor – Marvel: The superheroes of the Marvel Universe take over Splendor! This classic board game returns in a new version! Rediscover Splendor through the universe of the Marvel superheroes. Rules as simple and smooth as the original Splendor, with a distinct allocation of colours to provide a different experience of play. Diversify the tactics with the Avengers tile that passes from hand to hand and discover a new game end: get hold of the Infinity Gauntlet! Includes 90 characters from the Marvel Universe. ($59.99, 2-4 Players, Ages: 10+)
Stella – Dixit Universe: Stella – Dixit Universe is a new take on the Dixit universe: pick a word-card, and players secretly associate this word with any cards on the table that inspire them. Then each person reveals the number of associations they’ve made. If you’re alone in your choice, you’ve pushed too far and receive a penalty! You then score points for any selections you have in common with other players. Dare to chase the stars! ($54.99, 3-6 Players, Ages: 8+)
Best in Party Board Games
Concept: In Concept, your goal is to guess words through the association of icons. To get others to guess “milk”, the team might place the question mark icon (it signifies the main concept) on the liquid icon, then cubes of this color on “food/drink” and “white”. The first player to discover the word or phrase receives 2 victory points, the team receives points as well! ($54.99, 4-12 Players, Ages: 10+)
Hint: In Hint, your teammates have to guess what you are trying to tell them. Along the way you both mime, draw, hum and talk about everything from ‘European Capitals’ and ‘Movie Villains’ to ‘Songs About Wink’ and ‘Pizza Fill’. You must be both quick and creative, but beware! There is always one forbidden word that you may not use. An entertaining party game for everyone that gets the hint. ($49.99, 4-10 Players, Ages: 15+)
With so many great titles to choose from, you can keep your family entertained (and away from those darn screens) for days on end. The best in board games not only gives you quality time to spend together, it also teaches your children about co-operation, counting, spelling, team work and so much more. Do you know that a board game is what sparked my daughter’s interest in travel?Â
Does your family like to play board games together? Do you have a regular family game night? Which of these games do you think your family would enjoy?
