Garage and yard sales move over, there is a new way to clean out your closets. VarageSale is the fun and safe way to buy and sell online and the best part is it’s free to join! Pretty much everything we do nowadays can be done online: shop for clothes, order groceries, pay your bills and now, make some extra cash selling the treasures you no longer need.
I am no stranger to the ole fashioned yard sale. I have fond memories of the annual sales my street would have growing up. We’d haul out the stuff we no longer needed, putting sticker prices on all of it and then lug it outside to the front yard. We were met with the hordes of people who were always early to the sale, usually by a good hour or so. Yard sales sure have their place and we even have some great memories from them, but what a pain they could be! Dragging stuff outside and then bringing a good chunk of it back in because it didn’t sell. Haggling with people over the prices you had painstakingly added to each item, only to be offered a fraction of it. As a kid and then a teenager helping my folks out I used to get a good laugh out of how annoyed my mom would get when someone would want an item practically for free. Good times, good times. 🙂
Fast forward to the age of social media and getting rid of your unwanteds has never been easier! No more lugging your stuff outside, no more bartering with strangers. VarageSale is a great way to buy and sell online without lifting a finger. Well, just a few to do some typing, but I digress. The premise is simple: post photos of the items you want to sell online, add a good description and the price you would like to get and let it ride. Sounds pretty easy because it is.
VarageSale is the brainchild of Tami, Chief Mom and founder. Not impressed with the way traditional buy and sell online groups worked, Tami set out to create something better. VarageSale has hundreds, if not thousands of communities around the world where people can not only buy or sell their items, but also get to know the members that live in or near their area. The latest communities in Ontario to join the VarageSale family are Brampton, Mississauga, Toronto and Hamilton.
I recently joined the Brampton community and it was so easy to do. Once you sign up you can also download an app to use on your cellphone and to be honest, that is how I have been checking in on my own sales. Remember what I said about being easy? 🙂 You can also join other communities that are in your area so that more people see the items you have to sell AND you have a larger audience to shop from. You don’t have to be a tech wizard to use VarageSale either. If you can take a picture and pick a price, you can use VarageSale.
Now it is time to satisfy your curiosity. Check out the main VarageSale site and see where the nearest community is to you. If you live in the Greater Toronto Area head over to the Brampton VarageSale page and sign up! You can start off with just one item and see how it goes. I just sold my first item this week and it was – wait for it – so easy!! Make sure you check out VarageSale on Facebook and Twitter to keep up with all the new communities joining up!
Now that you have learned all about the best way to buy and sell online tell me, what is the first thing you would sell?

I love VarageSale, ZERO drama that all those FB Buy & Sell groups have, easy to post items for sale and I LOVE that when someone sends you a message on VarageSale about buying something it sends you an email. Instead of having to log into VarageSale you can actually just hit reply to the email and it will reply right to that person!
MapleMouseMama says
I agree with you Aimee. It is so easy to use and not having to find your post every single time is a huge bonus!

Very interesting. This app is everywhere lately and I am totally tired of those local fb swap and buy pages that are super full of drama. If this isn’t like those… I’m sold.
MapleMouseMama says
It is actually very peaceful, LOL. And unlike those FB groups you don’t have to search hours through the page to find your items. Very easy to use..

MapleMouseMama says
LOL Paula, I am sure it is coming. I was surprised at how fast the communities in Brampton and Mississauga grew so this is a need that people want.
