Halloween is not just about candy and scary things. It is the perfect time to make treats like Spooky Witch Fingers! This fun recipe is from our resident baker Kathy. She loves to whip up delicious goodies for her grandkiddos and this one is no exception. Spooky Witch Fingers are great for a Halloween party or sharing with the neighbourhood kids. Check out this recipe and let us know if you make them for your family.
Spooky Witch Fingers
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup of butter, softened
- 1/2 cup of confectioners’ sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon of almond extract (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 & 1/3 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt (optional)
- 1 (.75 ounce) tube of red decorating gel
- 1/4 cup of almonds slivers
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Lightly grease a baking sheet or use parchment paper.
2. Put the butter, sugar, egg, almond extract and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl. Beat together with an electric mixer; gradually add the flour, baking powder and salt, continually beating. When mixed well, refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
3. Remove the dough from the refrigerator and cut into 4 portions; work with one section and return the rest to the fridge. (Hint: keep the dough cool until you are ready to form.) Scoop one heaping teaspoon at a time onto a piece of waxed paper and roll the dough into a thin finger-shaped cookie. Press one almond into one end of each cookie finger to give the appearance of a long fingernail.
Squeeze cookie near the tip and again near the center of each to give the impression of knuckles. You can also cut into the dough with a sharp knife at the same points to help give a more finger-like appearance. Place the shaped cookies on the baking sheets. Continue until all the dough as been used.
4. Bake in the preheated oven until the cookies are slightly golden – about 20 to 25 minutes.
5. When slightly cooled, remove the almond from the end of each cookie; squeeze a small amount of red decorating gel into the cavity and replace the almond.
6. Display with some scary decorations and watch the kids gobble them up! Enjoy!
Happy Halloween! Make sure you check out more of Kathy’s great recipes while you are here. 🙂

Hummmmm I’m too old to eat cookies like this…..they almost resemble mine in real life! Well, no, I guess mine aren’t so bad. I copied the recipe wondering if I could do something less scary? Pumpkins, maybe? LOL Very creative and I’m sure the younger folk among us will love them.
MapleMouseMama says
LOL, your hands fingers DO NOT look like these Gemma! But the cookies can be creepy so yeah, maybe try a different shape next Halloween. 🙂
Wanda Tracey says
