Brushing With Sonicare For Kids * It’s Not Like Pulling Teeth *

September 24, 2014 By: MapleMouseMama36 Comments

Sonicare For KidsI am the first person to admit that I have a “thing” about oral hygiene. I have been this way for what seems like forever and last year when I reviewed the Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum it was like a dream come true.  My teeth never felt cleaner; my gums, more healthy. So you can imagine how great it was to receive the new Sonicare For Kids rechargeable electric toothbrush for my kids to try. I am paranoid that they will develop dental issues like I have and will do anything to prevent that.  The tooth fairy brought me a hygiene hero in the form of the Sonicare For Kids power toothbrush.

Sonicare for KidsLet me first tell you about this little electric gem. The Sonicare For Kids toothbrush is designed for children ages 4 and older.  This is an ideal age because children are starting to assert their independence and want to do everything on their own. As a parent I do not want to let them do everything, particularly brushing their teeth, on their own.  The Sonicare For Kids gave me some peace of mind knowing that even if my kids were not paying as much attention to brushing as they should, the actual brush itself was doing that for them.

The Sonicare For Kids has an ergonomic grip design to the handle which makes it easy for the little ones to hold or comfy for parents, when they are assisting with clean up (cause you know we will). The part that my son William loved was that he was able to choose a pattern for his brush! The kit comes with a sheet of handle covers and stickers so your child can customize their own brush. You can see William is quite happy with his choice.

sonicare for kidsThe Sonicare For Kids is designed to encourage healthy brushing habits that will net you excellent results.  Philips has not forgotten they are dealing with kids here because they have even added a little music! The Sonicare For Kids alerts you when it is time to change to brushing the next part, or quarter, of your mouth to ensure that all of your teeth get cleaned.  In order to adjust to using an electric toothbrush the brush gradually increases the power over the course of 14 cleanings until it reaches the appropriate brushing time of two minutes (when set to high). For the more apprehensive child you can set the brush to the low mode for brushing for one minute.  I found this feature proved it’s worth for William, who is five.  He was excited and nervous to use the Sonicare For Kids so having an option on the timing was perfect to ease him into this new routine.

I can honestly tell you that I am excited and happy to have my kids on the same cleaning system that I use for our teeth.  I will probably never stop worrying about their health, oral or otherwise, but with Philips Sonicare For Kids in our corner I know that I have provided them with the best rechargeable electric toothbrush there is.  Score one for Mama. 🙂

Are your kids good at brushing their own teeth? Do you “assist” them?

It’s so cool how brands have expanded to Kids! I like the idea of the stickers .. kids love stickers and this will help them to actually want to brush their teeth.

I love that you can put stickers on it!! I want one!

We also go electric toothbrushes for the girls to make toothbrushing more fun. They did okay with a regular tooth brush, but they we’re brushing long enough.

And the fact that the toothbrush appears so cool and attractive to kids —- parents will no longer have a problem of dragging their kiddos in the sink to clean their teeth.

My son loves this toothbrush. He’s 2 (it’s not recommended until they are 4) but I find that it wasn’t until I used this brush that he actually WANTS to brush every day. It’s like a game and he looks so proud when he uses it.
