Let’s welcome back contributor Lindsey Reeder as she shares her thoughts on the recent screening of the Walt Disney Pictures hit Big Hero 6!
Before I left my office to go see the premiere of Big Hero 6, I mentioned to a colleague that I was headed to the theatre to see it and he yelled out, “It’s supposed to be AWESOME”. He wasn’t lying. This movie had something for everyone, action, superheroes and tear jerker scenes that had me in shambles. This innovative plot line is the story of a young boy named Hero who unfortunately has lost his brother and is left in the care of his kooky Aunt Cass. As he’s quietly sitting up in his room, he meets Baymax. A blow up medical professional robot that’s conditioned to help when he hears the word “ow”.
Baymax can sense sadness in Hero, but can’t figure out why he’s upset. What Baymax and Hero both don’t realize is that Baymax’s mere existence is helping to heal Hero. After discovering that an invention that Hero created has been compromised and stolen, the two work together to solve the mystery, along with four hilarious characters from Hero’s school.
If you’re the type of person that self identifies as a nerd, then this is the movie for you. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, because of the smart and quirky elements seen in this movie. As I mentioned above, I cried… a lot (very similar to the movie Up in terms of the crying). I think that kids under six will have a hard time piecing together the emotional complexities in this movie and might not enjoy it as much as an older child, so keep that in mind when you’re purchasing a $13.00 ticket.
If I could give this movie three thumbs up, I would – it’s THAT good!

Well there you have it folks. Big Hero 6 looks like another record breaker for Disney. Methinks I will be taking the kiddos to see it very soon. 🙂 How about you? Will you be taking in a viewing of Big Hero 6?
