I can’t think of anyone who doesn’t enjoy a slice of the za every now and then, although as a child I was not the biggest pizza fan on the planet. If you ask my parents they will tell you that I didn’t eat it until I was in my teens and even then I would pick off most of the toppings. Fast forward a few years and I now love a piping hot slice as much as the next person, but I am still not eating it with tomatoes or mushrooms on it. 🙂Â
A nice alternative to pizza, especially if you are looking for a healthier option, is a pizza flat! Our resident recipe contributor Kathy has provided this delicious recipe for the Healthy Pizza Flats she makes for her family and they taste as good as they look. Give Kathy’s recipe a try and let us know how much you enjoyed this variation on a traditional pizza. While you are here, have a gander at some more of Kathy’s yummy meal or dessert ideas.
Ingredients
- Store bought dough (makes 3 flats at about one inch thick)
- 2 tbsps of Alfredo Sauce for each dough flat
- 1 cup of Chicken pieces (if you like it hot add 2 tbsps of Louisiana Sauce and mixed gently) and divide this between the three flats
- 1 Large Red Pepper (thinly sliced)
- 1 Large Orange Pepper (thinly sliced)
- 1 Large Red Onion (thinly sliced)
- 1/2 cup of Cracker Barrel (Herb & Garlic) shredded cheese for each flat (you can use any kind of cheese you enjoy)
- 1/4 tsp Parsley flakes per flat
Directions
This is the easy part! Just follow the directions on the package of dough to cook it. You can roll out your dough to make it thinner, if you like, so have some flour on hand for that. While your pizza flat dough is cooking, prepare the toppings and sort into separate bowls. Â
Once your dough is ready to come out of the oven, let it cool for a few minutes than spread the Alfredo Sauce on each flat. Next layer the toppings on that you want, than sprinkle your choice of shredded cheese over your creation. Pop your flats back into the oven for about 3-5 minutes, watching for the cheese to melt.
Slice up your Pizza Flats into triangles, squares or whatever shape your heart desires and serve!Â
Tell us, what other toppings would you put on your Pizza Flats?

I love these! I use tortilla wraps for bases because they go nice and crispy 🙂 my favourite has sweet chilli sauce instead of tomato and ham and feta with mozzerella on top.

I would add BBQ sauce to the chicken and mushrooms.

So easy to make and healthy, you can put any vegetable that you like and I would use a sugar/salt free sauce.
