Get outside to kick-start your best active season yet
When I was a youngster growing up I can recall eagerly waiting for the day, or should I say evening, when the sun would stay out later than my normal turn-in time. My sister, our friends and I would use up every last second of daylight, playing tag, hide and seek and just having fun in whatever manner we could. Once those streetlights came on we all had to go in, so we took advantage when we could. And that is the way it should be.
Once the weather gets nice, there really should be no excuse to stay inside. After a long winter, the first rays of sun feel so glorious and can really fill you with anticipation for the fun months ahead. I’m talking summer BBQs, biking your favourite outdoor path or even just enjoying a walk through the city – nothing beats it! Just like when I was a child, my own kiddos now love that the sun stays up later, allowing them to enjoy the warm nights and fun times with friends.
To make sure you’re prepared for an active summer outdoors, remember to take a second to prepare yourself with these options to help have your best summer ever!
- Upgrade your active gear
- While going to the gym in the winter isn’t so bad, come summertime it can be nice to move those workouts outdoors. There’s no better time to pick-up your active wear for the new season. I’m talking running shoes, hats, sunglasses, even a nice new water bottle! You will feel great heading outside knowing how awesome you look in your new gear! What a boost!
- Get active outdoors
- When it comes to being active outdoors, sunscreen should be your first step for sun safety. Don’t let the fear of a thick, greasy formula hold you back from activities in the sun. Coppertone® Sport Sunscreen Continuous Spray SPF 30 now has an all-new light and breathable formula that stays on strong when you sweat! The sunscreen also retains its SPF after 80 minutes of activity in the water or sweating, so you’ll be able to concentrate on your game knowing you’re protected.
- Keep allergies in check
- Moving from a treadmill to nature paths generally is a great feeling. The one downfall is, of course, all the pollens in the air. And they hit me hard this year. There’s nothing worse than letting springtime allergies slow you down when all you want to do is be outside in the sunshine. Let Claritin help you manage your allergy symptoms with effective non-drowsy relief so you can enjoy your spring and summer activities without the worry of itchy and watery eyes, sneezing and runny nose or skin itches and hives.
- Find a local farmer’s market
- Whether it’s a delicious new fruit salad you want to try out (like these) or a way to spice up your old faves (like this,) summer’s bright freshness comes through in so many ways with amazing seasonal produce. To help keep up with your active routine, why not take the opportunity this year to head down to your local farmer’s market to pick up fresh, local produce for great summer dishes.
- Stay active to celebrate Canada 150
- If you’ve taken it easy over the winter, there’s no better time to start getting active than with Canada’s 150th.There will be tons of great outdoor celebrations across the country, so you won’t want to miss them. Enjoy our beautiful landscape on July 1st (and after) to get yourself moving again. But if pain is slowing your progress, turn to ALEVE Back & Body Pain to help with the aches you feel.
With a little preparation, you can kick start the summer and there’s no better time than with this momentous birthday for Canada.
What are you doing to ensure this summer is your best active season yet?

being prepared makes summer a whole lot better!!
It sure does Lynda. Things like sunburns can put a real damper on your fun.
Nothing screams summer, adventures and memories like exploring the outdoors and staying active! I always carry a First Aid Kit with other convenient items like sunscreen, lotions, etc. to make life easier while outside and out and about on our adventures.
That is an excellent idea! Good for you!
Summer is my favourite season. I enjoy going for walks in the clean, warm fresh air and enjoying everyone’s garden and flowers.
It is the best time to really appreciate nature and what she gives us. Morning time is the best for walks around here. It is much cooler.
Being prepared can make or break your day !
it sure can!
We don’t usually have much of a problem with heat, however at the moment we have a prolonged heat warning on – can’t say that I’ve noticed today as it’s only 23 C but should warm up this afternoon. I’m glad that we don’t have the horrific wild fires raging in BC, hopefully things will improve there soon.
Those wildfires are terrible! I love summer, but there are so many other things to worry about.
We were out on the water fishing this weekend it was fun, thank goodness for Coppertone sunscreen
Wonderful! Yes, the sunscreen is a must!
Allergies seem worse this year than ever for me. The meds help me enjoy my summer.
We can not live without them.
I love the local farmer’s markets. Great way to get fresh food.
I like to garden, so I stock up on sunscreen and insect repellent.
I keep active gardening and always use sunscreen and bug spray.
